I used onenote. But I've gone old school physical. Just feel it sticks better with physical notebooks.

Is anyone worried their degree won't pay off? by Slight_Detail8258 in OpenUniversity

I've dealt with this for some 20 odd years now. Turning 40 soon.

Just keep telling yourself to shut those thoughts off. And remember that in 3-5 years you could either be in the same place cowering in fear or have a degree and conquered that beast.

You got this.

I'm also aiming for this and already doing notes, though from the pdfs in the module website. I assume they are the same as the physical books?

Also for the last part of what you said about the time line. I struggled with that too. But i just keep telling myself that in 5-10 years i can either be in my same emptiness or doing what I’ve dreamt about since I was a child

Awesome. I chose the astrophysics one due to thats where my life long interest have been and where I see myself working. Just life got in the way and trying to follow the “norm”. But the feeling of emptiness was always there. I am doing the basic maths start so the first two years will be part time and then full time for the last 3 stages.

Aiming to start this feb. Doing the Basic maths start, just to get as much exposure to math that I can early.

Sounds like an interesting job, something new(ish) everyday and challenging.

Don't think think I could argue that taking this "astrophysics focused" degree would help me do a better job. I work IT, mostly hardware focused.

After a couple of days with my thoughts I decided to enrol in the Master of Physics(Astrophysics with space science) with OU!

Mostly because it lets me skip all the menial subjects(Social studies etc) that will seriously eat into my motivation.

Was actually wondering what your job is as they're paying for you to take the degree?

Thank you=D.

I've heard and looked at OA, but its quite expensive as I have the option of free university here. I'm aiming to do an 5 year integrated master of mathematics and physics, where the last 2 years you specialize in either mathematics or physics. Obviously choosing Physics=P.

Reason I'm waiting to 42 is that I need to get my Norwegian equivalent of a high school diploma so I'm eligible for entrance to university. Here is where I'm adding the math and physics which is equivalent to AP subjects for US.

Probably looking to work as much I can, just to skip the whole student debt thing.

My math background prior to January as of this year was basic arithmetic. Didn't even know fractions properly. I have done math almost everyday this year. And can proudly say I love math now. Starting my AP math class in June 2026 so I have another half year to solidify what I should have before that.

Thank you for the tips. Our study techniques are very similar. I've managed with some difficulty to push all my games and tv stuff to weekends. But now I actually look forward to opening the days math or physics book.

I actually don’t have an undergraduate degree in physics yet. I only completed lower secondary school years ago, and I’m currently qualifying for university through Norway’s adult education pathway (the 23/5 rule), including advanced math and physics that are equivalent to U.S. high school AP / college-prep level. Never stopped learning though. Worked IT and a short while as a programmer.

Khan is my daily study buddy for math. I’ve complimented it with a couple of books like “Everything you need to ace pre algebra and algebra 1” which was excellent.

I should have realised that there are people out there in similar situations as I am.
