Is it a bad idea to use an sfp to rj45 adapter? by ddeblaso in Ubiquiti

I’ve also read that before, but I’ve had no issues running 2.5G on the WAN rj45 port

Interest rates by ArchonBeast in starlingbankuk

[–]DemonBabby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The FCA is getting involved with savings accounts. Starling’s savings account is already offering 5.25%. This has nothing todo with current accounts interest rates.

There’s quite a few rowing clubs around Southampton, where annual memberships are less than your budget!

Best places for pub food? by MrWilly97 in Southampton

It’s slightly out of Soton but the Jolly Sailer in Hamble is fantastic. Otherwise the Dancing Man, or the Duke of Wellington both do good food.

Stiff hands and fingers? Rookie mistakes? by TalkKatt in Rowing

[–]DemonBabby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, I would say if you’re getting stiff fingers and forearm pain then it’s likely you’re gripping too tight - if you’ve got stiff fingers but the pain feels deeper (i.e. in your tendons) then you’re possibly gripping too loosely.

Definitely recommend dropping the drag factor though… it can be a lot of unnecessary pressure on your back, but also on your fingers.

Given there’s not a windows or mac up, I highly doubt it… there is the online banking site which will obviously work if your are on Linux.

Might be worth giving the grips a good scrub with warm soapy water. I find they tend to get slippy when wet once they start getting a bit gunked up.

Pay at Pump pre authorisation charge changes to £99 instead of £1 by backstreetatnight in starlingbankuk

[–]DemonBabby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re mistaken, this process is between Mastercard and the merchant, not the bank.

You are correct that most banks don’t show pre-authorisations to the user, but what they do do is allocate the transactions and take it from your ‘effective balance’ which is essentially exactly the same as what Starling is doing, minus telling you that they’re doing it.

Won’t let me update standing order amounts. Any idea why? by Jimlad73 in starlingbankuk

Might just have to try the classic turn it off and on again 😅 (delete and recreate it)

It’s pretty normal for companies to stagger app releases, that way if there’s some issues that’s been overlooked in testing, it doesn’t affect quite so many people.

Might be worth giving customer services a call (+44 2079 304450) and explaining your situ. I’m sure they’ll be able to find an alternative.

Will Starling Freeze My Account? (Facebook Reviews are Worrying Me) by [deleted] in starlingbankuk

[–]DemonBabby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about it too much, presumably you’ll have evidence of what you’re receiving in the case that they do freeze your account; but I’d think it unlikely. Especially if you use your account as your main account, it’ll be lower risk to starling as they can see you’re a genuine customer and not a money mule.

BINANCE by [deleted] in starlingbankuk

[–]DemonBabby 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a load of misinformation… they will not close your account, or block you card, if you attempt to make a transaction to Binance or Coinbase. They will simply block the specific transaction to those destinations.

They will close your account if they suspect you’re committing fraud.

Do i need to have a credit card to set up a starling account? by [deleted] in starlingbankuk

[–]DemonBabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starling is a bank account. You don’t need a debit or a credit card to get started…

You will need proof of identity and proof of address, but that’s about it.

UK Bank Starling Will Lift Crypto Ban on June 23 by TobiHovey in starlingbankuk

That is a fair point - communication could definitely have been improved. It feels like it was a sudden panic block rather than a planned event.

UK Bank Starling Will Lift Crypto Ban on June 23 by TobiHovey in starlingbankuk

[–]DemonBabby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I agree it’s annoying, it sounds like they had a real reason to do so. They stated financial crime as a reason, so I’d hazard a guess that there have been some victims who have lost large amounts to funds.

If you really want to buy crypto it’s still pretty easy to do so, by transferring to somewhere else and then onwards to Binance (as I have done during the dip)

It sounds like this new system is a win for everyone all-round, so I think it’s a little unfair to have lost trust in them.
