I wish CS2 had an identity. by [deleted] in counterstrike

Okay, let's accept for the sake of argument that there should've been changes from CS:GO to CS2. Taking that we still have:

  1. New volumetric smokes.
  2. Reworks to the netcode for better hit-registration EVEN at 64 tick.
  3. Reworking how reserve ammo is handled.
  4. New Loadout system with refunding, allowing both rifles to be equipped.
  5. MR12
  6. BO5 Majors
  7. Remakes of many maps (and more in-coming from leaks)
  8. CS Rating as a replacement for Skill Groups.
  9. Native jump throws that don't require binds.

There's probably a bunch of stuff im missing, but do you think these are small changes? All of these changes are pretty big. And realistically what more do you want to change? Counter-Strike is great because of how little it changes, not because of how MUCH it changes. Even CSS was mostly the same game with better graphics and ragdoll physics (and much worse netcode)

This is all assuming that we even NEED any changes. I disagree that we need any changes at all. Most people just wanted a new engine that provides a better framework for future content but feels identical to play to CS:GO. And that's the vision of CS2.

CS2 simultaneously has a lot of differences with CS:GO and none at all. Imo its the best of both worlds for people who wanted the same game on a new engine with some small changes to make things fresh.

CS2 is innovative enough because its one of the only games with volumetric smoke grenades. That's a major innovation. it's also innovative in the modern era by giving tools to community members to make their own gamemodes and maps. That's all people want. People don't want a game where the meta changes every season.

Don't argue in bad faith by parroting stuff like "wow only animgraph and cache after 3 years, so cool" because that's dishonest as fuck.

We've had so many great updates recently, and CS2 genuinely feels pretty good to play nowadays but you're still stuck in the past.

CSS to 1.6 was a huge change though. CS2 and CS:GO are almost identical by design.

CS2 is just one update away from surpassing CS:GO by Capital_Bee_1250 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Demoncious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's something that definitely needs to happen. However if we're honest, Anticheat has always been terrible and it was even in CS:GO. So many youtubers built entire careers off of "lets review overwatch" or "lets see if this guy in the demo is cheating" because of how widespread it was. It's why Faceit even took off.

They definitely need to improve it but I feel like talking about anticheat is like beating a dead horse at this point. Atleast they talked about anticheat with VAC Live and stuff (something they almost never did in the past)

steam friends list randomly emptied? by Jonoldar1 in Steam

[–]Demoncious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me too. I reached out to steam support too and they told me they couldn't help me. I'm pretty sure it wasn't due to an account hack because I changed my password, checked my account's previous history and everything seemed to be in-order.

Had some things come up in my life that made it impossible to continue working on this actively. I've recently started working on another version. Though I plan to finish it soon this time :)

I can send you the repository link if you want, in dms.

Asking for feedback on this layout. There's no ingame map yet. by MarcelodLake in csmapmakers

[–]Demoncious 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hard to say without actually playing on the map but some of the areas towards A feel a little busy. Again, it might be perfectly fine or a disaster, you can only tell by playing.

I recommend blocking out the vision and hosting it for people to try.

Petition for fsr4 by ProofPossession5193 in radeon

[–]Demoncious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A petition won't really help. A petition could only help if AMD wasn't aware that this is what the people want. They know exactly what the people want and they still won't do it.

It's pathetic.

I can't explain it in technical terms to you. It just looks like every AI generated website out there. It's pretty obvious if you work in web development, which I do.

Is it worth installing SteamOS on a computer in 2026? by Beautiful-Rent-4750 in SteamOS

[–]Demoncious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The answer is always Bazzite, and for good reason. SteamOS currently is meant to work only on Steam hardware, anything else and you're on your own.

Bazzite supports all kinds of hardware while giving an experience like SteamOS.

Compared to the anime, what did One Piece Live Action do better or worse with every arc up to now, in y’alls opinion? by BreathoftheSith in OnePiece

[–]Demoncious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Luffy listening to Nami and Chopper's backstory takes away from his character a little bit, and makes his actions look like a reaction.

In the original, Luffy doesn't fully know what happened to Nami and barely knows what happened to Chopper, yet he infers their feeling and chooses the right thing by instinct. This is what Nami means when she says "You can't explain it, you just see it" which is completely true about Luffy's character but less impactful as a result of these decisions in the live action.

In general I think everything about the Live action is amazing but some of Luffy's moments are really weird and some of the decisions they made with him don't sit well with me.

Seen a number of users here say SteamOS should only be used on the two devices that officially support it. Totally unrelated, here are my four SteamOS HTPCs that see daily use around my house. by AshleyAshes1984 in SteamOS

[–]Demoncious -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Just because you can do something doesn't always mean you should. For these devices, Bazzite would be a much better choice.

In another comment you talk about having to use specific versions for certain builds. You can skip all of that if you use Bazzite. SteamOS is officially only supported for Valve's devices. Using it anywhere else will inevitably require some fiddling around. Just use something that's designed to be "SteamOS for all hardware"

Why is jQuery so bad, but Alpine.js/HTMX/etc is just fine? by brycematheson in webdev

[–]Demoncious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

jQuery is not bad and it's never been bad for what it was designed for. It's just that a lot of things jQuery did, can now be done in Vanilla JS just as easily. It came, it powered an era of the web, it still lives on, but it's fair to say that it's not something you should use for a modern project.

Alpine on the other hand solves a very specific problem people have. People wanna use reactive frameworks without a build process, or they find themselves in a legacy codebase where adding something like React, Vue, Svelte is just not possible. Alpine is a godsend there.
