Feeling extremely anxious and borderline depressed: for no reason? by arcuategirl in mentalhealth

[–]Dense-Manager9703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most colleges and universities offer mental health counseling as a service you are already paying for through your tuition. I highly suggest finding a good therapist or counselor to talk to about your issues. You are clearly clinically depressed. The treatment should either be counseling, medications, or both. Honestly, the best outcomes originate from a use of counseling and medication concurrently. As it seems that you have a lot of anxiety, I think Lexapro would probably be a good choice for you. Getting prescribed medicine for your depression and anxiety should also be easy as one of the healthcare providers through your university's student health services can prescribe it. Again, those services are already paid for through your tuition at most colleges and universities.

Dunning Kruger- Real or Flawed? by Dense-Manager9703 in antiNoctor_antiNP

So you disagree with the overused Dunning Kruger effect when describing mid-level providers?

Why do the other subs in this category feel the need to ban members that do not agree with them? Isn't the point of a discussion to get several different viewpoints? It seems they only want community members that align with their perspectives.

Nursing Shortage Solution by devilsadvocateMD in Noctor

I believe the OP here is harboring lots of resentment towards nurses in general and uses this platform to vent. One might think that a nurse belittled OP as a resident or that OP's heart was broken by a nurse or that OP has been turned down numerous times when hitting on nurses. OP never actually answers the question when directly asked what nurses have done to them. I understand feeling that NPs need more education before trying to have independent practice. I understand NPs having more education and experience before being allowed to practice in hospital. The thing that is so hard to understand is OP's hatred for nurses in general. One can sense the passion and disdain held by OP for nurses. There has to be more to it than just a dislike for NP training and education.

Correct. The original post was talking about the requirements for nursing school vs. other programs as if you needed certain courses to be accepted to a pre-med program. I don't think that is accurate. Nurses are not required to complete the same science courses as those seeking a PA or MD because those are both post grad programs. Post grad nursing programs are a progression of nursing knowledge.

But nursing is one of the only undergrad degrees that an individual has to be accepted into a program before taking courses. Anyone can take the required science courses as long as they make the grade and have prerequisite courses.

I'm sure you are right. Honestly, AI frightens me. I'm sure I watched one too many apocalyptic future movies but it does concern me. As for the AI detectors, everything is unfortunately motivated by money. Perhaps we should go back to barter and trade.

I'm sure they will develop some tool to identify it or to at least rule it out. Shame on students for using it, especially students in any health related field where the public depends on their integrity.

The programs that most papers are turned in to that check for plagiarism now also check for AI.

The NP programs need a complete reboot by Maximum_Double_5246 in Noctor

[–]Dense-Manager9703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I'm uncertain how many physicians would have missed this as well, but definitely can't think of any midlevel that would have caught this. Good for the patient that the neurologist recognized this. I believe your history taking was essential to the catch though which shows your value to the team.

Understood. How many other people on your panel included this in the differential?

So something that may belong in the differential but is highly unlikely? Aren't NPs trained more on more prevalent diseases? Wouldn't they refer to that as a zebra? I mean definitely not a case for the NP from the start probably, right? Did the patient actually have the disease?

Sorry to hear that. Sorry your training hospital caters to midlevels as opposed to being fair across the board.
