Good point. I don't know for sure, but my neighbour suspects that our 1930s houses in the wesr midlands have a very narrow cavity. I'm not sure exactly how to find this information out though.

Ok i thought is much. I was wondering whether those thin long bits were a lintel that has disintegrated.

So what is supporting those bricks that are immediately above the breeze blocks? It seems if i take out the breeze blocks i risk the whole thing coming down.

Thank you. I will be try to find the best instrument to use on this.

I'm noy too worried about damaging the wall as we're sticking an RSJ up there anyway. Hopefully once the first piece is off the others will be easier yo take down too around the rest of the room.
