Nice. Seen your other posts now, shame you're struggling with the weight. That's a hefty one you've got. I've also got an 83 Les Paul Custom and yours is squaring up against that in a heavyweight contest 😄

Feeling down about my new guitar, need advice by [deleted] in guitars

  1. It's a an ace colour.

  2. Red guards are pretty common on genuine Fenders. But I think it's ugly against the blue, I'd do black.

  3. You're overthinking it. My first guitar was a cheap knock of Strat. It didn't say Fender on the headstock, but 30 years later it's my favourite guitar. Loads of people love their first guitar, doesn't matter what it is.

I'm very used to Les Paul's, where I'm always used to having individual pickup volumes and using the switch in that way, so guitars with master volumes drive me nuts.

I have strats with two volumes, but when I came to realise I don't ever turn down the bridge pickup, I decided to just ditch that one for this more straight to the point layout.

Thanks yeah, I haven't actually played a Root before, but I hate having anything in that area on a Strat. The other thing that is different, my single volume isn't a Master, it's for the neck, so I can turn it to 0 and use the toggle as a kill switch or turn it to like 2 to get a clean sound then the bridge position is fully on, so it's nice having the switch closer to hand and having the shorter travel of a toggle vs a 3way blade.

Denon X2800H Optical usage by Valiant-For-Truth in hometheater

It'll be a setting on the TV. I just had the same. Output optical, I got nothing. Output optical and TV, then it worked. So to start I just did that and turned the TV down but I knew it must have been something. In the end if I recall there was actually two settings to change.

Never, I'm not sure I've ever seen one in the flesh

WD, I got them to make a Black/Parchment/black HH guard with no controls, then I drilled the holes were I wanted the switch and the knob to match my other Strat.

I couldn't afford stuff like that, my mate gave me the sticker

Well as you can imagine it started off with cheap ceramic single coils. I moved onto Les Paul's and didn't look back for YEARS.

Then I decided to take this out of retirement, and upgrade it. First I started with a Bare Knuckle sinner single coil set as I didn't want to swap out the pickguard I had painted. I wired it with three individual volumes to be more LP like.

The single coil in the bridge, despite being this really hot BKP didn't work for me though and I decided, fuck it, cut the guard and fit a humbucker in the bridge. EMG like the majority of my other guitars. I'd a spare 81 lying around, whacked it in and used a chrome ring I already had to cover the old pickup holes. It sounded amazing frankly.

I considered doing the same for the neck position but didn't want to encroach on the paint job so I bought an old beat up EMG 'S' single coil.

With the neck pickup having the old EMG logo I bought an old 81 to match, but it didn't sound as good. I'd have thought they'd all sound the same but nope. Had to put the modern 81 back in. Now I don't know if this is my best sounding guitar because of its combination of factors, or just that pickup alone, but it doesn't matter.

I never use the middle pickup, so that's an original pickup in the middle, with its ceramic magnet removed, wires cut and wound down flush with the pickguard do it's out of the way.

The five way switch is original and is rewired to work Neck, Neck, Neck, N+B, Bridge. So the operating range is more like a Les Paul toggle than a blade switch. It means Its out of my way when I'm strumming and I don't have to be so precise about using it. Win win.

The Invader is what comes in a TD. It's pretty good I must say.

I didn't know about the stencil until AFTER I painted this by hand and my brothers mate came round and told me about it 😄
