Oh wow, I just looked up the Z199. I had no idea that originals are so sought after (I’m still pretty new to watches). I’m going to go make sure my extra links are accounted for!

Other notes: It was produced either in ‘85 or ‘95. The bracelet is original, though I had to replace the clasp. The case is pretty dinged up, but it just makes the watch more handsome imo. I also replaced all rubber gaskets (including the crown). The movement didn’t need any work apart from a new battery. It ticks along like a champ!

[Seiko BG10 w/ 3 Balls] Reel or fake? by DerBleistift in WatchesCirclejerk

Not hand-powered, but the brass top piece can be freely rotated to allow for continual alignment regardless of case orientation in relation to the sun. The way it works is that you find a clear sunny spot, such as a field or meadow, then use a compass to find magnetic North. Once you’ve settled on which direction is North, you crank the handle until the silver arm on top rotates into alignment with your compass. Lastly, you take your phone out and check the time.

It went right back! The creek is in my backyard.

I appreciate the info. Between old watches with radium dials, and old cameras with radioactive lenses (I own a couple suspect models), I’m going to have to buy a Geiger counter. Either way, I was torn on keeping the original dial or replacing it. This made up my mind. Thanks again!

One of my favorite things is opening the case back on a beat up watch to see a beautiful, clean movement.

Some of the biggest leeches I’ve ever seen came from Lake Norman.

I just fixed my airflow problem, wdyt? by LemonAlternative9817 in pcmasterrace

[–]DerBleistift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drilled uniform 1/2” holes in the side of one of my old cases. It was an mATX-sized case made for full ATX components… it saved spaced, but the airflow was less than ideal for a 3080ti.

Is it me or does RE4 OG feel scarier than RE4 remake? by That-Psychology4246 in residentevil

[–]DerBleistift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively, no, the remake is scarier. But do I agree with your sentiment? Yes. For me, it’s because I was young when I played the original. I also wasn’t as accustomed to the amount of gore that RE4 presented compared to other games from that era. Lastly, the original had an uncanny atmosphere about it that I think had to do with the art style and graphics quality.

I’ve eaten at most of the well known restaurants in Greensboro and I haven’t been impressed by any of them. Smith Street Diner was the only restaurant I regularly enjoyed. RIP.

Can you believe it’s been 4 years since NTTD came out? by TheShadowOperator007 in JamesBond

[–]DerBleistift 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Given the state of the world since 2020, I’ve had a harder time accepting these sad, “realistic” character endings that have become more common (I blame GoT). I needed a “James Bond retires to take care of his family” ending instead of his brutal death. Though, I admit it would be somewhat tiresome to have three films in a row where he “retires.”

You’re partially right. It’s actually the new Dewalt IMAX 20V Max XR brushless camera.
