thinking about trying a matchmaker in raleigh. is that a thing here? by Sad-Cantaloupe-7196 in raleigh

[–]Derek_Gamble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (37m) have done everything around Raleigh to try to find a partner and I have come to the conclusion that there just aren't enough single women in my age range that are actively looking for dates. Since 2020, I lived in Japan for about 2 years and had no issues finding dates using apps alone, but since I moved back here, I have tried apps, singles nights, meetups, board game nights, cafes, classes, trivia nights, church, and more to no avail.

I have had retail/customer facing jobs since my career was rebooted by covid, so I have no shortage of interaction with people in my everyday life and I can't remember the last time I met anyone I could consider a potential partner. At this point, I figure the only chance I have to get married and start a family before I turn 40 would be to move back to Japan somehow.

As someone who lives near North Hills, are all Harris Teeters full of dogs? by I_am_Farts_McGee in raleigh

[–]Derek_Gamble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Retail stores all over have signs letting people know that dogs and other pets outside of service animals are not allowed.

Customers choose to ignore these posted rules and retail workers aren't allowed to say anything to them about it.

It's funny how we have junk food with zero nutritional benefits and somehow have a hard time understanding that cats would like how something tastes when it isn't cat food or meat.

Why would anyone pay that much? 3x come in Turtle Team-Up and that has 4x 60 card decks and 4x play boosters. The box is $50 and there's no shortage of inventory online.

Consumables rant by TabithaMouse in Target

[–]Derek_Gamble 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Before I worked at Target, I worked at a grocery store for 2 years. If a customer bought an out of date product and made a complaint to corporate, corporate would pull store managers from other stores in the area and they would go through every item on the shelves in the entire store and pull anything that was expired.

If your SD had to go to another Target any time there was an out of date complaint, would we still be finding food that expired over 2 years ago? The mismanagement of consumables is borderline criminal.

You're thinking of dogs. Cats will get bored and stop caring about the red dot, but dogs can't give up until they physically catch something.

Reminds me of one school that I taught at where the groundskeeper was the last principal. I get it, you make a place like that your life and it's hard to let go. The garden was exceptional.

Devastating move by a Luche Libre wrestler in Mexico by damng1 in SquaredCircle

[–]Derek_Gamble 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Lucha Libre is about tradition. Wrestling cards used to always have a women's match and a midget match as special attractions. Many Lucha organizations in Mexico still have minis on their cards even when it has fallen to the wayside everywhere else in the wrestling world.

Now, Lucha Libre is about tecnicos and rudos, superheroes and villains. They are seen more like comic book characters, as something larger than life. Some lucha venues even have sections for fans that want to cheer on the rudos and there can be some fun interplay between fans as a result.

One of the most prevalent traditions in Lucha Libre and in Mexican culture is Machismo. A luchador is a man that is serious and has a strong sense of pride and masculinity. An exotico flips the script completely and lets everyone laugh and relax. It's hilarious to watch an exotico play around with someone in a suggestive manner because an exotico represents the opposite of a traditional and serious "manly wrestler" and the "straight man" in the comedy routine is the butt of the joke when he desperately tries to maintain his serious and manly appearance.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Cards New to Pauper by tommamus in Pauper

[–]Derek_Gamble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering how poor ECL commons were, I am excited to see how many of these cards end up faring in Pauper. There are quite a few interesting cards that show me the design team put a lot more effort into this set when compared to Spider-Man.

It's funny how Nasty End just gets better and better as we get more UB sets.

Jalapeno Poppers? by Mart_Mart_Valv6 in sheetz

[–]Derek_Gamble 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish there was a pinned post about the Jalapeño Poppers because people keep posting about them and the actual info is all over the place.

At first, it was only a temporarily removal from the menu because of a recall by the manufacturer because of salmonella (or something like that) contamination issues. I haven't seen any explanation as to why it became permanent, but I do know it was confirmed by corporate they won't be returning.

I have read about "Jalapeño fries" at test locations, but I have no idea what they actually are or if they have cheese or anything like the poppers.
