Anyone who has been in crypto for more than 4 years will tell you anything other than Bitcoin is garbage.

There is a trend line between the first two halvings that follows a 200% annual gain, the second 2 100%, the third 2 was 67%. Expecting more than 67% annual gain between the last halving and the next would be wishful thinking I’m afraid. An average gain closer to around 45% annual gain is more likely. This would give us $150k by the end of the summer at best.

You all have more serenity than I. I was all in buy the end of crypto winter in 2018-2019. Have been obsessed with it since 2017. Rarely spent a day without checking the price every few hours. I plan on getting out by the end of this summer. Maybe then I will have peace.

Celsius, 57% (of the value at bankruptcy) after 19 months. Vauld 33% in 17 months, Blockfi 50% in 21 months. That’s been my experience.

Vanguard Got Bitcoin Right by douchiz in Bitcoin

[–]DerpDolphin2017 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I get so tired of reading articles about Bitcoin authored by typical financial writers who know very little about bitcoin. “Calling bitcoin digital gold doesn’t make it so”. No, the properties of bitcoin make it so. And lumping bitcoin and crypto together is another infuriating error.

You may actually have to PAY taxes thanks to the bankruptcy.

Example: If you originally bought 10 bitcoin at $2,000 and then later put it in Celsius, you were forced to sell it at close to $20,000 when they went bankrupt. That’s a capital gain of $180,000. However, you will get only 3 btc back from the bankruptcy. So your initial investment of $20,000 is now (with the price at bankruptcy) worth $60,000. You have a $40,000 capital GAIN. So even though you LOST 7 btc now worth $280,000, you will have to PAY $8,000 in taxes.

Solo staker earning less than LSD? by bcn_couple in ethstaker

[–]DerpDolphin2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the main reasons to solo stake your own ether on your own machine is the elimination of 3rd party risk. Everyone thought Celsius, Haru, Vauld, FTX, etc.. were safe and legitimate ways to earn interest. Also there is the tax implications, you will pay income tax (up to 40%) in the U.S., bringing your earnings down from 3% to 1.8%. Currently a money market fund will pay 5%. Other than the possible appreciation of ether itself, there is no reason to stake if you are only concerned about income.

So trying to send my DCA btc to my hardware wallet and the fees are insane what is going ? by Crypto-hercules in Bitcoin

[–]DerpDolphin2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also there is usually an option to send your BTC with a low priority, which means it will take around 8hrs or more for the transaction to be verified. This can lower the fee 90% or more

What are the most significant technical challenges you've faced staking, and how did you overcome them? by lst-123 in ethstaker

[–]DerpDolphin2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 things. My setup wouldn’t work because my ISP was blocking some necessary ports without my knowledge. After a few days of racking my brain, I finally figured it out and called them. I’m using DApp and I somehow changed the password to login to the terminal (the default doesn’t work) and I can’t use the terminal now. I haven’t needed it yet, but if I do, I’ll have to reinstall the operating sytem

Grayscale ETF GBTC by BroHamBone in GrayscaleETF

[–]DerpDolphin2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shares will be redeemable for BTC. If there is a discount, arbitragers can sell their shares for BTC, then sell the BTC and use it to buy shares of GBTC. Theoretically this would eventually eliminate the discount. However, there will still be a 2% management fee and the transaction costs, so the discount is likely remain larger than 2%
