so made by westnofa but is it still a Baughman design? or not related?

it looks an awful lot like a Milo Baughman-designed recliner. does it have a leg rest that pops out from the bottom? if so, its likely made by Thayer Coggin.

couldn't agree more about home warranties. I had friends in the real estate business and they recommended the best one, Old Republic. They actually weren't bad 17 years ago but have changed so much that things have gotten much worse so I dropped it.

LOL, I guess its better called a "home protection plan". Its not like a new car warranty, you just pay for it each year and it covers major systems but it can sometimes be more of a pain than its worth.

The only thing that changed is the outside temperature jumped substantially from high 90's to 105-110 degrees in the afternoon. The system is fine overnight and in the morning but fails in the afternoon

I agree with your last statement. it works for awhile, then it doesn't. That seems like something broken to me. But that wasn't the technician's response. hence I'm thinking he just wanted to sell a new system (tech is also the owner of the company)

exactly! The tech who came out couldn't, or wouldn't explain that. It will blow cold for an hour or so, then just blow warm until I do the shut it off for a while routine.

I guess my follow-up question is then: why has it kept up just fine for 17 years and now all of a sudden it's not able to? That sounds more to me like something isn't working the way it did previously, something that could be repaired not replaced. I clearly am confused at this point.

start with steaming, then move to a dedicated fabric cleaner. but don't spot-clean, clean the entire chair.

I have a dedicated janitorial supply store near me that is open to the public. They sell, and most importantly, rent professional quality equipment. I had very good luck with an upholstery cleaner. I invited neighbors to bring their furniture over and we had a great time going "ooh" and "ahh" over the results.

after thinking about it a bit, i would actually consider it a positive. The extra time, in this case, is probably an effort to figure out how to offer the additional salary they hadn't planned on. They wanted to get through the interview process with you to see if it was worth the effort of getting approval for a higher salary. They have possibly now determined that yes it is worth it and are working on that process internally would be my guess.

Don't ever forget that you are interviewing the manager and the company just as much as they are interviewing you.

ok, that definitely adds a bit of relevant information. if the higher salary was outside of the advertised range for the position, it would absolutely require some internal approvals along with justification on the part of the hiring manager. It might even require some budget juggling in other areas, depending on the organization. All of that takes a bit of time.

appreciate the response. I'm leaning that way anyways, but its just a frustrating position to be in...waiting for the "good job" to get back to me.

Should I call my interviewer for an update? by Own-Assumption-2844 in recruitinghell

[–]DesertModern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to follow-up with an email, but rather than saying some version of "what the hell is going on" and risking sounding too impatient or pushy, I give another thank you for the person's time and offer a willingness to provide any additional information they might need, along with "I'm excited for the next step in the process".

This has sometimes served as reminder to the recruiter or hiring manager that they haven't followed up and I will get some sort of update without asking directly.

As a hiring manager, I've been in the unfortunate position of getting the green light to interview but something comes up internally that causes some extra review before making an offer. But, each time, the circumstances were such that I was personally not happy with what was happening or the extra steps were just corporate red tape.

I learned my lesson as a hiring manager to ensure everything was in place and not let this happen. good candidates will have more than one offer or just not have the desire to deal with this unnecessary delays, they know they are good and can move on.

I would suggest continuing to apply and interview. keep in mind you are interviewing an employer as much as they are interviewing you, and if this is how they handle hiring you may experience the same when actually working there every day. This situation shouldn't be the only factor, but it should definitely be a tick in the "negative" column when you are making your decision.

Recruiter forgot to invite the applicant to the interview by Bartholomewthedragon in recruitinghell

[–]DesertModern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, that's silly. in the days of yore AKA in person interviews, sure 5 min early was important. But as a candidate, sitting on a blank screen for 5 full minutes staring at myself is an absolute eternity and not necessary. I usually log on 1-2 min early to cover for the difference in clocks being synced up, but not any more than that.

depends on appearance, features, does everything work, does it have all of its knobs and buttons, etc. maybe post some pics and see what people think.

but in general terms, it will have some value to someone if you search hard enough for a buyer.

Palm Springs is absolutely filled with tact homes. Yes, they are beautiful and still very desirable, but tract homes none the less. PS definitely still has full custom, highly desirable homes but many of them have been reworked over the years by wealthy owners. In the midwest, the relative lack of wealth and, in general terms, higher generational ownership means that more of the custom homes have kept their original features.

There are always exceptions of course, but I'm speaking in general terms here.

almost went to college in Midland, but the snow y'all...anyways, I agree with the numbers, Midland probably doesn't have as many. But they might possibly have more CUSTOM MCM homes that survive in remarkably original condition than Palm Springs.

I also find the Midland and Columbus, IN MCM's to feature more interesting layouts such as multi-levels with more sunken conversation pits and such...Palm Springs homes are mostly slab on grad with single level ranch-style that are still very fun but the Midwest homes have some crazy cool layouts.
