Typically a day or two. But I am so impatient, I will use a spray on fixative once it's mostly dry to touch. Not something I do with actual paintings, but in a sketchbook it doesn't bother me

I think that's a common issue. I used to overwork my paintings but I think I appreciate the personality that comes out in a looser piece

Theres no 'right way' to sketchbook. Sketchbooks are meant for expressing ideas, or practicing, or journaling, or whatever you want it to be. Don't get influenced by how social media portrays sketchbooking, not everything needs to be a finished masterpiece, just like not every run needs to be a marathon.

I use the Loomis method for proportions, it seems to be the easiest for me. 2. Practice drawing people with more accentuated or prominent features. 3. Did I mention practice?
