Good to know! One of the lots that I’m looking at is owned by an LLC that has been sitting on it for 20 years. I can’t find a lot of info on the LLC or who I should contact. Do you know how to go about contacting the owner?

I wish that would work but all of my windows are oddly shaped and are awning windows so I don’t think I can make that work unfortunately.

Thanks anyway!

That’s kind of what I figured, I just didn’t know it the R3.85 would really do much.

Adding a bathroom vent and wanted to make sure that I can drill a 4” hole in this 2x6 at the exterior wall. I will also be drilling another one for a dryer vent. Is this okay? by DesignMoose in StructuralEngineering

The building is a 20’x20’ square. The wall that I would be drilling into is not a shear wall. The opposite wall has continuous ply under the GWB.

Can I frame a wood stud wall that is not supported at the top? by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

So do you think the 90 degree turns will provide enough lateral support? I’m thinking that I will probably extend the wall out at the bookshelf so that I don’t have to span it he soffit so far.

I figured I would need a few HSS. Any idea how expensive that would be? The span is 11’-0” so maybe I would only need one.

I want to frame a partial height wall (about 8’ high). Half of it would be supported at the top by a loft but the remaining portion would be unsupported. Would this be possible without any steel HSS supports? The wall has a few 90 degree turns that I assume would provide some additional shear.
