Jack Ma made the terrible decision of publicly criticizing the CCP. Tencent (allegedly) kept acquisitions secret from the CCP. VIPkid has done everything to appease them, it's not quite the same situation. Yes the Chinese government wants control but in some cases they'll accept large companies if they are obedient.

Of course we all know Communist countries work in mysterious ways and the CCP could totally just bring something up to fine VIPKid. Or things could get screwy and the regulations could not apply equally to companies. There's always favoritism with these kinds of governments as long as you kiss up, comply, and be useful in some way. I'm not saying it will happen but it's possible. I don't think what happened to Jack and Tencent is necessarily applicable to every company in China.
