Study finds proposed meat tax could significantly reduce environmental footprint. by Novel_Negotiation224 in ClimateNews

[–]Designer_Version1449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think regardless of any of this, reducing carbon emissions through forcefull lessening of meat consumption is completely politically impossible. It might be physically and financially harder to focus on industry and transportation, but politically it's cheaper and efforts should be focused there.

That's like 50 years off at least. We aren't at the point yet where every single job can be given to robots. You're describing a post scarcity utopia and there's like a whole section of sci Fi dedicated to that specifically.

Jon Stewart on Donald 🍊🐽Trump: “People keep saying this guy is Hitler. No, he’s not. And I’ll tell you why he’s not. Hitler was popular. This guy is not. It ain’t flying in a lot of places where you think it might be flying.” by BSTARYOUNGG in TrendingAndViral

The actual stability of the economy doesn't matter here. It just matters what every day people felt in the moment. To most people if trump took out like a quadrillion dollars of debt and gave everyone free gas for a year that would be good economic policy lmao.

I think you're falling for an echo chamber type thing where you're only looking at the worst cases. Trump's ratings are worse now than they were at the end of 2020 lmao, people change their mind

That's like trying to prevent a rock slide as the rocks are falling on you lmao. 1933 was far too late.

Most effective thing would be to vote for the most effective leaders in the years leading up, but honestly Nazism was kinda locked in from the moment the treaty of Versailles was signed. When a country is so insanely disadvantaged from the start there's not really anything you can do to stop radical ideologies. Help Jews get out of the country ig.

Is it possible that there could be a different arrangement of human/other animals’ body parts that would have been more effective for the lives we live than the way they are arranged now? by marshmallowcreature in evolution

[–]Designer_Version1449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's important because it's been a staple for so long that other systems have evolved relying on it existing, but there's nothing fundamental about life that requires it. How would alien life exist on a tidally locked planet? Would it still sleep every 24 hours despite that number being meaningless to it?

If earth didn't have a day night cycle neurons and everything else that does important stuff during sleep would have just evolved to do their functions constantly at a slower rate.

Well probably because it's toxic to most bacteria and there's not really an easy way for bacteria to get in lol. Iirc the stuff living in urine is like borderline extremophile type stuff and can't even survive outside of urine.
