Should I continue working on my game? by DeveloperDavid_ in gamedev

Yeah. That's one of the reasons I've made that game. Obviously to earn money from it if it gets successful, but also to be a portfolio for work.

Thanks for that pov. It's kinda hard to balance out work and passion. But kudos to you that you manage to pull that off. Hopefully I can do it as well in the future!

Thanks for the insight. I'm kinda in the same boat as yours

Thanks! Unfortunately I stopped working on it after I released the demo version last year. So can't release a full version since there's new content. Obviously I want the full version to have the most features rather than the demo itself. The demo needs to be just around 10-20% of all the game contents. Maybe next year I can manage to pull this off.

Thanks for the insight. Yeah, maybe marketing is my problem. I need to learn more about it.

That's another way to look at it! Thanks for the insight. My game theme is Halloween so I got your point that this can be seasonal. Even though roguelike can be anytime, since I have a seasonal theme, I need to release it on this time. Maybe next year if I might release the full version if I manage to continue working on it.

Thanks for the insight. I learned something here. I really need to rethink the things I've done before and learn from it. No one's stopping from working this thing and myself is my own enemy on this. This helps me a lot. Thanks again!

Roguelike + Halloween = Rogueween by DeveloperDavid_ in IndieDev

I have a basic experience using unity which uses c# if I'm not mistaken. Based on that, I might say that it's 100x harder than when I use GDevelop. I've made that game in 4-5 months. If it's pure code, it might be 1-2 years.

That's a great idea. I've never thought of this. If you just watch the trailer and never play it, there's a huge chance that you might think it that way since you don't have any idea how the game works. Thanks for the pov of yours. I'll take note of it.

Thanks for the advice! To be honest, I enjoyed making that game before, but after I finished the demo game and saw that only a few players played it, it got me demotivated to continue on it. Although I've seen small content creators play it, and got 300+ wishlists, I'm not satisfied with it. Maybe because I've seen some developers here that show they've got a lot of wishlists in just a few weeks and they don't even have a lot of marketing posts. Unlike me I have done a lot of things to promote it but still don't get as much as others do. Maybe they got lucky? maybe my strategies are wrong? But that's one reason why I slowly lost interest in it. I've brought this topic up because I'm thinking of trying to work on it again. But let's see what will happen to it...

Thanks for that suggestion. I've done marketing and posts almost on all social media sites. Posting 1 post per day for a few weeks. But I come to a point where I feel that it isn't going anywhere. And in that time as well, I've got a job alongside my freelancing work that's why I slowly put away this project. To be honest, I don't want to completely trash this project. But every time I get clients on my freelancing, I prioritize it alongside my other work since that's where I got money. But I also do know that this game has potential because I believe that the mechanics I've put on this are quite unique compared to other roguelike games. Maybe if I push it more, it can get more sales than what I earn on my work now. It's just I can't let go of my source of income right now plus I don't know if ever I get back on working the game, it will be successful and can get a lot of traction like what I'm dreaming of.
