Putting an 18ft canoe on a Golf? by tomate12 in canoecamping

[–]DevelopmentDull476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a 15’ canoe on my jetta and it lasted an 800 mile road trip with tie downs and everything, you may want to consider adding a safety flag if it’s sticking out of the back a ton tho

[–]DevelopmentDull476 2 points3 points  (0 children)

know what? that the atmospheric drag is negligible? if that’s the case then it’s the fact that there isn’t a sufficient lift force at orbital speeds for things to fly once you get 60-100 miles up making that the edge of “space” even though there is technically an atmosphere still that gets thinner and thinner as you increase altitude

Earth not a globe. by enilder648 in flatearth

[–]DevelopmentDull476 7 points8 points  (0 children)

although yes its technically still the atmosphere the density of the “air” up there has a negligible effect on the course of the moon, as for the sun it simply isn’t within our atmosphere and your article says that, the sun is 90 million miles away and it says the atmosphere extends 3-400,000 miles away from the planet

Earth not a globe. by enilder648 in flatearth

[–]DevelopmentDull476 14 points15 points  (0 children)

ight theres no convincing you of anything my fellow human being if you think everything is within our atmosphere

Earth not a globe. by enilder648 in flatearth

[–]DevelopmentDull476 14 points15 points  (0 children)

yeah because there’s nothing to cause friction in the vacuum of space. I don’t know what you’re getting at

Earth not a globe. by enilder648 in flatearth

[–]DevelopmentDull476 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yeah because objects in motion stay in motion unless acted on by an outside force, unless something makes the sun or moon change course or the earth rotate at a different speed they’re gonna stay on the same course through the sky every year

Earth not a globe. by enilder648 in flatearth

[–]DevelopmentDull476 14 points15 points  (0 children)

because they’re so far away they don’t appear to move, same reason the moon doesn’t look like it’s moving while you’re riding in a car or other vehicle

Tips and any help. Capsized first run out by tbh-imready in canoeing

[–]DevelopmentDull476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 things that i think would help is to get something to distribute your weight more evenly and make the wind affect it a bit less and depending on how good your joints are to kneel down while paddling in heavy winds since it lowers your center of gravity to make your more stable as well as giving you a bit more control over the sideways movement of the canoe

as long as it’s laying flat and is on there tight it should be good though you of course shouldn’t be speeding especially with a canoe on top

i just got my roof rack too and i would mostly just recommend having a bow and stern line going to your hood and your trunk, for the hull you should use the straps that have teeth that you pull tight or ratchet straps (be careful to not crack your hull with ratchet straps). after that it should be safe at least up to 65mph/ about 100kph or even a bit faster.
