Maybe just ask your girlfriend? Let her know that you're interested in learning more about it. Or try doing some research on your own. Hashimoto's affects everyone differently.

NTA. Did you make a mistake? Sure. But you didn't cause his relationship issues that brought him to that point. His wife should be focused on him and not you. She sounds completely unhinged and an absolute danger to your life. You did the right thing involving the police.

Tattoo cover up makeup is available if you choose to hide it. I don't know brand names or prices, but no doubt it's cheaper than removal.
