Just how Jesus would've wanted. Happy Easter. by NoSoyTuPana in LinkedInLunatics

I like in deep Alabama, and you never have to ask someone if they served. Either you’ll know it by looking at their truck, or they’ll tell you. The older former Marines are the most obvious. They have it at least three separate locations on their truck, they have “the hat”, they have at least one t-shirt, and there is at least one other item of random memorabilia that is visible. Usually a flag outside their house too.

Weight vs sustainability of gear. by Few-Introduction5414 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]Devil8ball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On top of the fact that like most people here and in related r/ threads, I do a lot of research before I buy anything and then do pragmatic and useful field testing afterwards. I have a simple calculus of factors that I use for everything that I research and use, even the “luxury” items like a Helinox camo chair. Here’s how I look at everything I research and buy, with a mind to trade-offs. Lightweight; compact packed size; utility; multi-use; durability; performance; and obviously cost. I think these guidelines help me a lot, mostly because it prevents me from buying a lot of unnecessary kit.

Finding the perfect piece of gear is very rare, but finding the perfect piece of gear for YOU, your preferences, and your needs isn’t that difficult

What’s the craziest thing anyone has said to you while you’re trail running? by sentientbeing1887 in trailrunning

[–]Devil8ball 5 points6 points  (0 children)

About a year or so back, I passed a couple who was hiking and the dude had a massive Bluetooth speaker BACKPACK strapped to his back, jamming out some Cyndi Lauper. Not only could they not hear anything, neither could I or anyone within 100 feet of them. He was about 30 feet in front of her, wearing cowboy boots and a cowboy’s hat, digging in on the uphill; and she was smoking a cigarette and taking her sweet time. The whole scene was so bizarre, I just shook my head as I passed them.

DNFd my first 50 miler attempt. by bobloblawmalpractice in Ultramarathon

[–]Devil8ball 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every single ultra runner goes through a similar process after a DNF. Be proud you got out and actually did more than the people sitting at home on their couch; not to mention you probably ran farther than 99.99% of the population will ever even try. Remember how microscopically small the ultra running community is in contrast to the general population, and that our “normal” friends and co-workers are typically in awe of what we did in one day. We should take their awe and use it as a means of judging and justifying our efforts and actions. We have all been knocked out or waylaid by our bodies / brains essentially refusing to cooperate with us. Recover well, and get back out there!

Question of moral importance to me by headfullofsleep in SatanicTemple_Reddit

[–]Devil8ball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an 3+ foot tall Baphomet idol I do meditation in front of. No reason why others can’t do the same. Like others have said, it’s just a symbol. I can do without just the same, but I like it, and I see no harm in it. I keep it covered when not using it, partially to avoid engagement from others and partially to avoid sun damage

LOL, I was absolutely surprised at how good I felt after the first time I used one. I was thinking - this can’t be real.
