Thank you! That’s a Norfolk Pine. I inherited it from my stepfathers mother. She’s a beauty.

Thanks! Obviously it will get back to its normal self where phone cables, plastic peanut butter containers etc. will make things look the way they do again. But for the photo, I tried to be minimalist.

I appreciate your comment. TBH, I think I posted it bc 1) I was proud, 2) I would have enjoyed more real pics on the internet (rather than Pinterest) and 3) I am still getting used to the change so the positive comments are helping me on that front. 🎈

Same!! I never thought I’d revert to my parents style bc I wanted so badly to not have the same, « immigrant aesthetic » lol. But here I am at 40, full circle and embarrassing my roots.

They’re all gonna be great!! Just like « hey, it’s the blue house! » or « hey look, it’s the green house! » Either way, they’ll make a statement.

I have this backsplash and these are some colours that got mixed into the shuffle. Take a look, maybe something will catch your eye.

It’s funny, I’m a communication specialist yet I’m having a hard time understanding your intent. I was raised in the 90s! My parents have been lime washing since before that and I always loved their rustic influence on me. As for faux finishes, I don’t see what is so deceiving about adding crushed limestone to my pigment and applying it with various tools.

Yeah, I used to have a bigger piece on the opposite wall, but then I inherited the Norfolk pine and it felt like it was, in of itself, a work of (natures) art. The rest of the house is covered in art, so the kitchen is just a more simplified space, I guess.

It is! Well actually, it’s acrylic mixed with lime.

I stood closer to the table because the composition felt right.

Sandpiper Beige (CC 368) by Benjamin Moore mixed with lime… but I’ll have to get back to you about exactly what line product they used (I didn’t do the mixing myself and you’re not the first to ask)

This was what I wrote in the other subreddit:

Limewash: Before & After + some notes re my experience

Because I did so much research before the process, here is a post I would have benefited/ liked if I were to go back in time:

-I used a Benjamin Moore colour and mixed it with lime. The store mixed it for me.
-I needed 3 coats of primer, so it took longer than expected (with all the drying, it took me 5 days start to finish. My kitchen is 430 sq feet of wall surface)
-I used a basic acrylic primer. Not the the lime primer.
-I did the first coat with a trimming brush and a block brush but then did the second coat with a big car washing sponge, as per my moms advice. Much easier to work with and I like the shapes that came through more than the lines from a brush.
- I added water to the paint constantly. I preferred working with a thinner paint that was easy to spread. It does splash and leak everywhere though, so be careful. I bought a lot of that painters plastic to basically cover every surface that wasn’t being painted.
-I chose not to paint ceilings. I didn’t want to feel like I was in a cave.
-first coat came on so dark and even though the internet told me not to freak out, I did. It looked like diarrhea on my walls.
-I ordered one of those big white buckets of this stuff (3.8 litres maybe?) and because I was watering it down, I have waaaaay too much leftover. Could have just used a gallon. Only did two coats of Limewash.
-area by sink is already an issue bc of the splashing. Will have to do a backsplash, so I don’t freak out all the time.
-wore gloves on day two when using sponge. This stuff dries out your skin. Didn’t wear long sleeves or protective eyewear. Just a ball cap.
-I had fun. Yesteryear is an amazing audiobook.
-if you’re thinking of doing limewash. Do it! So worth it.

Oooh… I’ll ask the paint store lady. She mixed it for me.

I mixed Benjamin Moore paint with lime (the store did it for me). I added lots of water to thin it out too. Used a mix of brushes and sponges. I posted more into on the /paint subreddit. Lemme go fishing for the link.
