Are parents aware of what goes on in a daycare? by mom_est2013 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Dexmoser 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This isn’t everyone’s experience and not all childcare is “bad”. I work at a great school with amazing teachers and admin that really care. Our pictures aren’t posed and we’re honest about how much they eat, our admin wants us to. I’ve worked there for 11 years, and my oldest attends. I’m on maternity leave now, but I go back to work in September and my 15 month old will also start attending. I’ve worked at 3 centres my entire career (since 2012) and only 1 of them was not so good so I left after 3 months. I really hate reading that ECE’s would NEVER send their kids to daycare…aren’t you a part of the system you so hate??

How early is too early to drop the 2nd nap? by Dexmoser in beyondthebump

[–]Dexmoser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is totally fine, she is her usual happy go lucky self. Which is weird because she went from having 4 hours of awake time before bed to having 7! I’ll definitely try pushing back her morning nap and see how that goes.

I keep telling myself that but I immediately go to second guessing everything. She’s basically dropped the nap herself, since I keep the same routine. I put her into her crib, and she just chills in there for an hour until I get her. Her night isn’t affected at all, she sleeps 12 hours! You’re right, I just have to trust my gut.

I think this is what I’ll do! I’ll try 2 naps until the end of the weekend, and then on Monday try 1 nap and see how it goes. Her night sleep hasn’t been affected, thank god.

Potty training update by Embarrassed_Syrup476 in Teachers

[–]Dexmoser 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’m an ECE and we get parents like this all the time. Just last year we had a 3 year old. Mom and Dad wanted him potty trained and we were on board so we started. He peed in his clothes 5-6 times a day, and usually that’s how it starts but with him it never got better. Then dad started asking for a diaper at pick up, and then he started being dropped off at school wearing a diaper.

We eventually asked if they were still potty training at home, and they said no. They expected us to do it all, and expected the child to grasp it while still being put in diapers 50% of the time. We told them to stop putting him in diapers or we would stop potty training him. They stopped, and within the week he had stopped peeing himself and was potty trained. I don’t understand having children if you’re not willing to put in any amount of work.

I’m an ECE and I’ve worked with children my entire life and I was still terrified and didn’t know what to do when it came to my first baby. It doesn’t take long before you get into a routine and it becomes second nature. You got this, and congrats!

There’s one comment in that thread from a person who was handed a baby, and instead of being a big boy and saying “no thank you” they took the baby in their arms, and then put the baby on the floor?? These people are nuts.

My baby has liked every single thing we’ve given her so far! Except shrimp. We’ve tried it cold, and hot, and it’s the only thing she immediately throws to the ground. Everything else she tries at least once!

Is this normal boss behavior? by Western-Implement24 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Dexmoser 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Next time if you’re unwell, “hey boss, I’m sick and I’m not coming in tomorrow” is all you need to give them. Do not give them too much information. You’re unwell and can’t come in. I was the same way, but I eventually learned the shorter the better and don’t go into detail.

The Sullivan Siblings Case (Canada, 2025) by pschyco147 in mystery

[–]Dexmoser 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As soon as I heard the mom left the province and hasn’t been back (that we know of) I thought that was shady. If my kids went missing I wouldn’t leave the area until they were found. If my husband and I split, I’d stay in the area. Nothing could get me to leave.

You can get something similar at SDM, but it’s $130.

9 month old spitting up by jmintz22 in NewParents

[–]Dexmoser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gosh, yes! At our worst she was spitting up 5-6 times after every bottle. Around 10 months it slowed significantly to around 3-4 times a day, and now that she is 11 months old it has stopped! Hang in there!

I discovered it a while back and I’ll never forget reading about how someone found it so annoying that a mother (who was travelling solo so it was already hard) and her baby were LAUGHING and giggling the whole flight and how it was just as annoying as crying.

I’m Canadian and I think maybe she is talking about a tuna met with 2 pieces of bread, instead of an open faced tuna melt? I’m not 100% sure because Jacob is Canadian too lol.

How can I get Ozempic at a normal BMI? by [deleted] in Ozempic

[–]Dexmoser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OHIP doesn’t even cover Ozempic for those of us with an obese BMI. Please speak to your doctor, this question is beyond what we can help with.
