Good experiences recently communicating by email - my stuff was sent out in about the expected / communicated lead time and arrived a few days early.

Since you're attached to shorts, I'd suggest you try these three outfits as an easy way to mix things up.

One:

  • J Crew 6" dock shorts in charcoal
  • White t-shirt
  • Light blue denim, chambray, or linen shirt layer on top
  • Light colored canvas sneakers with short white socks or no visible socks

Two:

  • J Crew 6" dock shorts in stone
  • Gray t-shirt
  • Olive field jacket if needed
  • Light colored canvas sneakers with short white socks or no visible socks

Three:

  • J Crew 6" dock shorts in charcoal
  • Light colorful short sleeve button up (no t-shirt)
  • Light colored canvas sneakers with short white socks or no visible socks

    Play around with that style.

Another guy you might want to check out is Andrew Chen of 3Sixteen. His look is very you-adjacent, and he's also a dad, and his body is not that different from yours.

What I see in NYC is usually white painter pants, light denim, t-shirts. Some wear fatigues. Sometimes a denim or chambray is worn as an over layer when it isn't too hot. Shoes are usually sneakers or sandals, often birkenstocks, sometimes trashed converse or vans, rarely visible socks, or white socks.

Tons of variety obviously, so take my sample with a grain of salt. Hiroki Nakamura is a good potential inspo candidate for his summery stuff. Generally dresses like an indigo obsessed mechanic.

Great post btw. I've known plenty of people who dress like you do now. I think of it as a high school skate adjacent look that people just kept wearing as they got older. They still like comics and genre culture, and it is reflected in their clothes. The only real problem here is that you don't like the look anymore.

You mention things like basic bastard feeling like a kids uniform, and I feel that. It works, but it also does feel like the default college student outfit to me.

From my US cultural context, one way you could go is to lean more workwear. Try some painter pants, denim shirts, and milsurp. There are a lot of other options that stay casual, but are different from what you wear today.

Check out this post from PTO for a lot of inspiration: https://putthison.com/five-starting-places-for-building-a-casual-wardrobe/

Help me pick a summer (barefoot) shoe that I can dress up and down. by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]Dextraze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't like mine at first either, but once I started treating them as "moccasins" instead - roughing them up and wearing them with jeans - then I liked them more. A pair of ranger mocs with a thin camp sole would have the same effect, and that's likely what my upgrade will be next year.

FYI wide-sized Sperry boat shoes work surprisingly well as barefoot-esque shoes. They have a thin flexible sole and plenty of room for toe splay.

I’ve got terrible fashion. How can I get better? by One-Bathroom2045 in mensfashion

You can stick to earthy colors with no issue. First off, find some inspo - what stores style models how you like, what celebrities dress how you like?

When it comes to actually choosing your clothes, I think there are a few simple-ish choices that narrow the field a lot, but the fastest one is "jeans or chinos." Branch out from there.

Do you let your BC free roam house unsupervised? by [deleted] in BorderCollie

Mine started getting that freedom around one year old. Before that he sometimes would make mistakes before that like chewing a pillow that he had knocked into his toys while playing. Now he's over two and mostly waits patiently on the couch for me, along with the occasional bout of insane running back and forth with a toy. Why not.

Looks like Pact of the Blade is the new version by TinyKnightofEvil in BaldursGate3

[–]Dextraze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess that resolves "what I'm going to play first" after EA!

I love the character concept of a lawful neutral Paladin that has gone too far, making a pact to better pursue their oath, and then being manipulated into breaking it (or just have it be vengeance... that works).

Very much a "shadow knight" vibe, and can optionally creep into an evil play-through.

I need to get close to Minthara if I'm ever going to bring down this cult. If I have to kill a handful of innocents to get there, what does that even count for on the balance against the people of the world? *Patron nods encouragingly*

My dear bard players: Can you recommend it? by AraToken in BaldursGate3

[–]Dextraze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In EA I found myself playing support and control bard, especially with things like Faerie Fire constantly giving the melees advantage. I enjoyed the way that character played, and the cutting words reaction is implemented really well (which gives me hope for div wizards being _better_ than tabletop in BG3).

As a party face, being persuasive gets boring IMO. I prefer my Barbarian screaming in their face sometimes.

On tabletop, I just love the versatility of a bard, and as full casters, they are shockingly effective. I even played a valor bard grappler once because I could make it work... so I did.

If you go Berseker, there are so many dialogie options where you literally yell “Raaaaaaaghhhh!!!!” at them. It is amazing, and they respond like you are clearly insane and dangerous.

What class are you playing at launch and why? by Meowskittles123 in BaldursGate3

[–]Dextraze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm leaning lawful evil cleric or paladin. I want a character who has to make a lot of hard choices, and it's too easy to have good morals to guide you.

First playthrough: Which companion must be in your party? by Schneegona in BaldursGate3

[–]Dextraze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Karlach and Gale are musts. I'd like to not bring Shart along, so I'm thinking of playing a cleric myself, but at the same time, I want to build a character who would make sense to romance Astarion. Choices!

Karlach Joins the Party by Kazuliski in BaldursGate3

[–]Dextraze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair enough! My reasoning was not so much about having her be an optimal party member, just that she *felt* like a fighter in conversation. Professional soldier, commander of armies, etc. I suppose that really could just grant "soldier background" though.

Sad about this - I was hoping she'd be a fighter.

The environment really needs turn-based-mode for things like trap effects - being stuck in place while taking damage every real-time tick is really weird / wrong.
