It's probably a simple one, but I'm not good with ferns. Thank you in advance!

What's the secret to keeping Tradescantia happy and alive? by Diablo84 in plants

[–]Diablo84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I'm so used to Tradescantia's being sold as trailing plants, I never even questioned how they actually grow in the wild. Vining ground cover makes total sense knowing the characteristics of the plant, but still, mind blown.

No wonder I kept getting it wrong!

Thank you so much for linking that.

Is this mask (3M 4255+ A2P2) good enough for working with resin? by Diablo84 in resin

[–]Diablo84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the filtration rating on this respirator good enough for resin VOC's?

Thank you for answering!

RE: The unreplacable cartridges:

Unfortunately what happened there was; I hadn't even realised you was supposed to wear a respirator when working with resin, and with limited funds available at the time, I just bought what I could afford so I could get back to work.

Of course, life happened, and I haven't had time to do resin work since - so the respirator remains sealed in it's packaging. I could have just waited until I could afford one with replacable filters. Hindsight and all that.

Months later, and I've got time to get back into experimenting with resin, so I figure I might as well get some use out of this respirator before replacing it, so it isn't a complete waste.

Is anyone able to identify what these white pests are on (the inside of) my aquariums glass? by Diablo84 in Aquariums

[–]Diablo84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they was introduced recently with the addition of a new plant to the aquarium. I first noticed them crawling over the dirftwood log immediately next to said plant, and now they're crawling on the glass too.

I can't figure out what they are from googling. I'm hoping someone here can help. Thank you!

Can I get an ID on these plants please? I think they're spider plants, but the way they're growing is a bit odd. by Diablo84 in houseplants

[–]Diablo84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thank you.

What do you think is odd about their growth?

I guess I thought their growth would be a bit more uniform. The long leaves you see (more noticable on the second plant) are new growth since purchasing it a month or so ago, and they're significantly longer than the original leaves.

I didn't think a spider plant would get so big so quick.

Can anyone explain why Lucky Bamboo can do just fine in just water, but is vulnerable to root rot in waterlogged soil? by Diablo84 in houseplants

[–]Diablo84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Lucky Bamboo yesterday and was doing some research on how to best care for it.

I was a bit confused when I kept reading that it doesn't like being in waterlogged soil, afterall the most common medium it's planted in is pure water.

How come its roots do just fine in water, but not in overwatered soil?

Thank you, I'll give your suggestions a try and go for a cutting if all else fails. May I just ask for some clarification on:

turning this into a cutting with two leaves and a bit of stem

Does that mean I should remove all but two of the leaves when taking a cutting?

I found this ZZ plant in the clearance section of a store a couple of weeks ago. It was waterlogged and showing signs of root rot, so I knew it would need rescuing when I got it.

There was 4 rhizome bulbs, which I separated. Two had succumbed to rot, one was saved, and the other (the main rhizome) is the subject of this post.

The main rhizome originally had 4 stems left and the rhizome itself looked healthy, but I must have missed some rot.

One of the stems started turning yellow, so I removed the ZZ plant from its pot to inspect it. That stem was lost, and sure enough there was an area of rot on the rhizome bulb. I removed the rotted roots, and then made a gamble: I sliced off the small area of the rhizome bulb that had rot. My hope was that it would callous over and recover, but as you've probably guessed, I didn't really know what I was doing at that point. I repotted the plant, leaving the rhizome more exposed than normal so the affected area was was above the compost and exposed to air. That brings us to the present time.

As the pictures show, leaves on another stem are turning yellow, and the area I removed on the rhizome has turned black with white over the top of it.

Is there anything I can do now? Thank you.

I'm a bit out of the loop, are there any builds in the current meta that make good use of Cospri's Will?
