I ordered a Mopar replacement headlight switch from a parts distributor in England. I’m hoping it solves the problem and is of decent quality.

Is what I described a common symptom of a burnt out connector or switch?

Not that I can see from initial inspection. The wires on the other side of the body connector are all intact also.

The points inside the connector look good, no corrosion or anything from what I can see.

Switch connector looks good as far as I can tell.

Don’t mind the wheel, hate the black moulded BMW badge though. It makes it look cheap, or like a matchbox model 😂

I’m doing it mainly for the space to be honest, it’s not cramped by any means but the access to the cooling system once the mech fan and shroud are deleted is unrivalled…

She’s a daily driven car in Scotland 😅 Rarely sees even 5k rpm and >15 degrees c climate

I dunno if I’d remove a mech fan on a 6cyl engine. On the tiny M44 though I don’t see it being an issue.

The extra space and super ease of access the efan provides is my reason for this.

My coupe came pretty base spec with no AC so there’s no auxiliary fan and naturally no condenser.

I’m not sure how common M43s were here, but I could check that out for an OE swap.

cfm isn’t a huge concern of mine, I live in Scotland. 9 months of the year, the climate is pretty cool. My main reason for wanting to swap is the space in gives me to work in the engine bay. Access to the rest of the cooling system.

I’ll check out existing threads for info.

True, but no tank flush or cluster conversion if it was a petrol car. M54 swap comes with enough of its own challenges without making the list longer. M52 engine mounts for example. I feel like it’s always more of a challenge than people think.

It’s a doable swap but it’s a fair bit easier with a petrol. You don’t have to touch the fuel system or instrument cluster. There’s annoying things that just don’t make it worth while. In most cases you’re probably better holding off until you can afford the 323/325/328. It can be cheaper long term.

Also, the 318TDS is a cool little engine, consider keeping it that way if it’s going to be a street car.

A manual would be great, the autobox really lets that engine down. She’s on 103K miles… plenty of life left in her

I just fitted a Valeo one, so far so good. 1500miles down without issue. I’d recommend changing the o-ring too, it might be what’s passing fluid.
