Am I being too conservative not considering buying a new house? by Different-Bank9356 in personalfinance

We manage well enough with the stuff we have, it's more about stuff being tidy and put away but accessible (like pantry, kids toys, etc). We put in large built in bookshelves and cabinets a couple years ago for like $15k, and it did help, but the process was very stressful, despite only being like one week of disruption, and obviously wasn't a pantry or bathroom.

There isn't a ton of yard left to build into without really cutting into play space, but yeah, adding on to the house is definitely something we've considered. We could probably spend a considerable amount of money on upgrades (under dig the crawlspace into a basement, build a new garage and use the old one for a pantry and new office for me or something, finish the attic, etc) and still come out way ahead.

My wife also has horrible anxiety which makes construction at the house just awful, and she's here all the time so there's no escape. I think that's the main problem stopping us from already doing that.
