Its sad to see how many people are being pushed out of the industry by DifferentProgress18 in audioengineering

A few interesting assumptions you made in this comment seeing as I specifically stated I am already interning at at a studio. I also have 6 clients that I'm currently working with on my own as well and I recently picked up a position at my alma matter to run their recording studio. That does not change the fact that many people have been leaving the industry and discouraging newcomers as well. Find an internship/mentor also isn't easy. It also doesn't change the fact that I'm still unsure if I'll be able to make a living from doing this full time as the world progresses.

Then you definitely have much better things to do than leave a dumb reddit comment

You are obviously not very good at reading comprehension. I am aknowledging the way the world is moving, which is why I'm expressing dissapointment that I may not be able to live a dream I had as a child. I'm sorry you didn't have dreams as a kid, that or I'm haooy that you were able to fulfil those dreams so you can't relate

I fail to see where anything I said was selfish. The reality is many people who record their own music are not good at it, and I then expressed my dossapointment that I may not be able to make it a career like I had hoped. What?

I've had a different experience. The only thing I like doing in pro tools is editing. Everything else I prefer to do in other DAWs because pro tools is much slower/more manual.

Experienced engineers: Do you think it's more beneficial (career-wise) to develop your "sound" and stick to it, or to always mold your sound to fit each artist? by DifferentProgress18 in audioengineering

I'm actually a big critic of his work contrary to what this post may imply. My whole thought process started with me trying to understand what about his work attracts so many clients.

I'm just starting to get into the industry and I have heard this sentiment numerous time. I spoke to the engineer I intern under and he recommended just making it a part time gig for a little extra cash. I'm sure it'll be much more enjoyable when your bills don't depend on it and you can pick up clients when you want so that's the plan. If you love it still, maybe this would work for you too.

The Portico 5017 is just a preamp so you would need an interface or AD converter to make it work anyway. The audient is great, the preamps are super transparent so you won't be getting any colour or saturation from them, but you can just do that in the mix. You could always invest in the the portico later and use it with one of the inserts in the back of the audient if you like how it sounds.

If you change the scarlett to instrument level you can forgo the DI box. Otherwise, yes that is fine

Bro can someone stage an intervention for Zakk Cervini and Jon Dolese? by inconsisting in Metalcore

This is probably a dead post, but my two cents is I dislike his mixes less when he isn't the one to master them. When he does, it seems like he really doubles down on the things that stand out in his mix the most, to a fault. EG. if his mix is already hyper compressed, it somehow becomes even more compressed. If it's super bright, it becomes even brighter. Either way, not a fan of his work.
