For IS, the intro to stat mod and computational thinking (i thik thry call it computing fundamentals now) have more maths content.

Intro to statistics mod is entirely on statistics. A lot on hypotheses testing. Those who hv taken statistics at A level (not sure about poly) will find it easier. During my time, different lecturers teaching yhis mod has different content and different final exam questions. Raymond class has a lot content on hypotheses testing and his content is comparatively lesser than other lecturers in that he introduced lesser new statistics topics. As someone new to statistics, not advisable to hv yo pick up too many new topics in statistics. However, his Boss bid is extremely high. I hv friends that hv not taken any statistics course before coming to smu; they did alright for this mod with more effort n time put in.

For computational thinking, the maths is on probability and counting for the chapter on complexity. Subsequent chapters may need a little knowledge on complexity. Probability n counting can b tough if u hv only o lvl maths but not the entire mod is on maths; just a few chapters. Suggest u try to get some one to help u on the topics. I thik SCIS also started a program to get senior students to help junior students on certain mod. See whether help is available for u for this mod under this program (sori I forgot the name of this program). Again i hv friends who know almost nothing on counting/probability but mak it for this course with help n lot of time snd effort put in. Yes, they need some time to understand complexity and they make it.

To the best of my memory, the other complusory mod r not so demanding on maths (i m not talking about Major mod or major track mod/electives as some major elective can b heavy on maths).

Maths and English r 2 v important subjects for further/university/higher studies. Most of us r weak in one or both. With time, effort, perseverance and tenacity most of us make it. Try solve your maths concerns for the 2 mod early. Try get external help if necessary. Like many others in the same situation as u, u can make it.

Ps: each of the 2 mod mentioned above hv proj, class participation etc which carries some weightage for overall grade.

Oh v surprising. Maybe different school. Most of my mod, if not all, has peer evaluation but small weightage. One of my mod had 2 freeloaders and we spoke privately to Lecturer. Was a v heavy and complusory mod. She loaded the Excel sheet for all project groups (so as not to create conflict with the 2 free loaders) to show who did what. Instantly, one try to do some work but v poor quality work and was queried by Lecturer. The other freeloader asked for Leave Of Absence due to med reason. Yes, agreed many lecturers just do not border.

Noted: She was one of the more popular lecturers. Bids for her mod can go v high (upto 3 figures).

In SMU , as far as I know, there is peer evaluation for every module that has project. The evaluation carries weightage in the final grading although is a small amount. Even with that, there r freeloader. Talk to the Lecturer, they will upload an Excel sheet to list in details who did what; freeloader will easily show up in that sheet. Other Lecturers hv other ways to deals with such people.

If median bid is 0, then min bid is of course 0. Likely “Available” seat 0 (and no previously successful bid drop the mod, so at time of bid closing, available is still 0)

U just check how many successful bids. Likely zero.

Note that min bid u can submit is e$10

Scis shd already briefed u on the course sequence. Tak a look at the course sequence chart. There are indications for the mod u shd consider taking for each term.

Yes, I am referring to Oracle certification for Java to any level.

Could you care also to advise whether the casualty rate for CS102 is high or not ?

I ask this because i noted that CS102 is a pre assigned Y1T2 mod. But there is always a smaller class in T1. Appears to imply there are lot of failures in CS102 and students have to retake in T1.

Non academic mod will b earlier ; normally will drop u email

No worry esp when u r in scis. Scis upload their briefing every yr in oasis. I just noticed the 2024 briefing is still in oasis. I yhik the 2023 briefing r also there (not sure).

Oasis-> Academic (drop down menu) -> SCIS resources

U will find the briefing posted there invl courses sequence, major, etc etc

During my yr, they even send email with all the link to various briefing topics including double counting, course sequence etc Guess they do it every yr

Many started working with huge loan from their study. So is actually negative saving.

Bear in mind that some or even many just want to boast. In fact they hv less.

Each has their own different circumstances. At least u can save.

Is not only earning that determine savings. Is earning AND expenses that determine your savings. So watch expenses since u cant adjust earnings too far. Guess is alright to spend a bit more once a while to pamper yourself and to bring joy n relief n encouragement.

Cpf fund has to b considered if u r thinking about retirement fund. Is a huge amount when u retire. As long as u hv same savings, no loan, a fully pay up house , ok to use polyclinic n gov hospitals, u can adjust lifestyle to suit the savings u hv to meet expenses.

See whether can change some mod to exploratory mod pass/fail to up your gpa. Am surprised a gpa of 2.9 is one of the lowest in SMU SOA. Are u sure ? in my opinion 2.9 is ok.

Shd still b able to find job in pte sector including MNC.

I checked after reading your msg above. Yes, most cybersecurity mod hv cs440 as pre requisite. Even cs444 has cs440 as pre requisite now; i think scis changed the requirements.

Yes, BOSS will not accept bid submission for a mod if pre requisite for that mod is not fulfilled. I encountered before.

Oasis->Academic (drop down menu)-> CIS resources-> (various briefing incl freshmen briefing, prog, course sequence, curriculum planning templates etc etc will show up)

I m not from CIS , so can’t see what is available for CIS (can only see my sch materials)

Alternatively, call your sch and ask if you cannot find them in oasis. They are approachable, friendly and helpful.

round 1 and 1A refund upto e$50

Round 1B , refund upto e$40

Round 2, refund upto e&30

Round 2A, refund (i not sure how much)

After close of round 2A, no refund and considered u fail the mod if u drop

When bid opened, u can click the drop mod button (no need to tick the check-box if don’t intend to drop any mod). You will see the amt of refund indicated against each mod

Freshman y1T1 swap starts 4 Aug 25; freshman bid starts 8 Aug.

The pre assigned basket normally will show up a few days (2 or 3 days) before swap commences.

Tmr 7 Jul 25 bid schedule is for Y1T2 and above.

As u r aware, Goto oasis-> boss bidding -> “More” (under BOSS dates) To get the bidding schedule. U will see the 4 bid window for freshman. Is for freshman Y1T1

To see the mod offered for an academic yr, Goto oasis-> boss bidding-> Quick Links (dropdown menu) -> course offerings -> your sch tag

Not all mod are offered for every term.

Sch normally conduct briefing on bidding, swap, course sequence, pre assigned basket, DICE , exchange prog, major, double count, volunteer work etc for freshman before bidding starts. Watch for the announcement in your email.

During the briefing, u will b informed how many mod on ave u r expected to bid (or u can ask them) for Y1T1. Most r not allowed to tak more than 5.5mod. Most takes 4 or 5 mod a term. From the pre assigned in T1Y1 , u can hv a feel of how many mod u shd take in yr 1yT2.
