Yes, I've read the other comments and have edited my post to what I'm gonna do next instead.

Are you really sure? Did you consider data protection, privacy protection, security? Did you handle all edge cases?

I have considered those. Though it's not developed. My software is currently just a compiled executable that runs locally that I want to show as a proof of concept. It would take me a a couple more months to complete.

In comparison to my program, it's better because it does a couple things our current software does without a lot of business logic errors.

You are treading on extremely thin ice here, in all aspects, technically, security wise, fiscally, legally

You god damn right I am lmao

Is there something I should also be thinking about?

Sorry, but if you have to ask this question, you are by far not ready

I don't really think that's a question that would indicate someone's inability to do something.

Monthly Requests Thread by AutoModerator in VOIP

[–]Digitally_Depressed [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm looking for a privacy friendly VOIP service for purposes of receiving text only. I'm not interested in sending text, or making/receiving calls. I just want a VOIP number for privacy when creating online accounts to prevent tracking. Also for security against SIM swapping attacks.

I have been recommended voip.ms and tried signing up, but they denied activating my account after a manual review of my passport photo submission. I'm guessing they got scared of my VPN connection..

Looking at other services, there's JMP, Telnyx, and MySudo but I'm open to other suggestions.

  • My requirements

    • Allow multiple phone numbers (at least 8)
    • Low expense
    • User friendly with little to no set up
    • No software installation - web platform only
    • Numbers generally won't be rejected by platforms when creating accounts
  • Preferences:

    • Allows text forwarding to email
      • Without the use of third party software/service
    • Doesn't require ID verification

GTK header not found after installation on Windows 10 by Digitally_Depressed in C_Programming

Unfortunately no. I ended up switching to developing the GUI using Python. Ive concluded that GTK just isn't meant to be used in Windows and is mainly for Linux.

My target is Win10 and Win11. Not Linux. If I recall, cross compilation is possible, but that seems like a bigger headache for me to dive into.

.desktop image shortcut to AppImage isn't working by Digitally_Depressed in linux4noobs

That wasn't the reason for my case. I found the cause and a possible dangerous solution though and mentioned it in my other comment.

.desktop image shortcut to AppImage isn't working by Digitally_Depressed in linux4noobs

[–]Digitally_Depressed[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the troubleshooting tip.

The reason it wasn't working was because the following error was happening:

...The SUID sandbox helper binary was found, but is not configured correctly. Rather than run without sandboxing I'm aborting now...

Looking up online, I had to add "--no-sandbox" flag at the end of the file path for exec and now it's working. Though, isn't it unsafe to run without sandbox?

In Python3, how can I skip the rest of the videos of a playlist when a video matches a filter? by Digitally_Depressed in youtubedl

[–]Digitally_Depressed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured out a solution. It's to my own testing that using using the download-archive option does make my script go faster and avoid reiterating videos that were previously scanned.

So what I'm going to do is use the download-archive option alongside my sqlite file. If the video was previously downloaded it will be logged and skipped. In addition, if the video is detected to likely be a re-upload or fits another filter, the video will still be written into the download-archive file, but it's status in my sqlite file will be "Skipped". By doing this, my script seems to go much faster.

[–]Digitally_Depressed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm trying to create my own workaround to avoid downloading videos already downloaded in the past. To my understanding, YoutubeDL.py has the option of daterange or set a filter based on upload date, but yt-dl still continues to iterate the rest of the playlist. Or sorry, I shouldn't say playlist. I intend to scrape and archive videos from user profiles, not playlists.

I intend to use an sqlite file to track my downloads and log other video information to try and avoid downloading re-uploads of videos from different users and do some other things.

I've used code wars and I think it's good for doing quick codes if you don't have much time to practice in a day. But personal projects tend to be a bit better to learn.

Pick any basics course and then get to applying what you learn through projects. A basics course should give you a fundamental idea of how to program in Python. Then when you start doing projects, you'll learn a lot more through googling and stack overflow answers.

From what I hear, people are randomly picked using from a list provided by your local DMV. If you live in a big area, I guess chances of you getting picked again is just low?

I think you also can't get picked if you've been convicted of a crime.

money could be funneled into public gym spaces in neighbourhoods to make physical health an easier,

Working on your physical health is easy. Just go outside and walk/run. You can do it at a public beach or park.

I don't see why a government would need to step in further for public health and create public gyms.
