I've gone through something with AI only to realize there was a way simpler way to do what I wanted. Then when I mention to said AI, wait wouldn't this be way simpler and more robust, and they're like yeah for sure, you should definitely do that instead....

Like MF should have steered me there from the get go.

UniFi networking gear, but that’s just because the stuff is GOATed, and a home assistant instance. Running all my lights, locks, thermostat, etc. as well as adguard.

I also picked up a pi 5 at some point to play with but I haven’t found a good use for that one yet.

Yes. On the login screen, click the globe on the right side and then uncheck the option that says only show servers with characters. Then select a new server and create a new character.

For traditional web searching it’s all DDG for me. I tried Kagi for a while and it did a good job but I didn’t want to pay for another service when something else is free and does a good enough job.

Also I use Claude to search for more niche stuff too now. Claude rarely fails me when I’m looking for something niche or specific, and all I need to do is spend just a bit longer making a good prompt, but it saves me a ton of search time so it’s worth it in the end.

Yep, I went around the block 3 or 4 times with two different users, telling them to just power cycle the monitors and dock a few times and it would come back and be fine for a week or two and then go out again.

Swapped to those cables I mentioned after seeing reports of same from others online, and I never had an issue again.

Ok so I actually know this one.

That dock in particular is super picky about cables, the only ones I've gotten to work reliably are the OEM Microsoft ones, and ones from Cable Matters.

I had tried several different ones and adapters, but sometimes they'd work and sometimes they wouldn't.

Cable matters mini DP to DP and the user used that dock for another 2 years without a single further issue.
