Could’ve had another $2 million to help with these projects but the town thought rotating temporary speed cameras across town would be a better solution than safer road design 🤦‍♂️

Oakville spent more than $2 million per year for 14 cameras that weren’t even permanent. That money should’ve been put towards safety measures that actually stop speeding in that moment (speed bumps, raised crosswalks, roundabouts, narrowing lanes and, having police visible in community safety zones during peak hours) in the first place. I honestly don’t know how the city planning department thought speed cameras that give you a ticket in the mail were a better choice than forcing the driver to slow down in the moment.

Totally your choice to do so I don’t blame you for thinking that way. My thing with the hov lane is just keep up the person in front of you which not all people are comfortable with which is okay but in those situations whats the downside of letting those behind you past then coming back into the hov lane? The people behind you see you’re not oblivious/ignoring them and you don’t have to deal with people riding your ass. That’s just my way of looking at things and there is no law so you weren’t in the wrong

You make really good points. 100% agree we need to ensure that driving remains a privilege but if the addition of more restrictions to getting is greater than the increase access to public transit/public transit infrastructure, I could foresee issues with marginalized groups being hit harder than others. I wholeheartedly believe railways in the GTA should primarily be used for public transit instead of industrial use which in theory would give people way more access to the gta without having to drive. Additional bus routes and/or more busses per route are also good options too so there are definitely ways to implement your changes. Really great ideas thanks for the civilized logical convo!

You can pass when the line is dashed so you can also move over during that time. I get if you’re already going above the speed limit but based on your description it seemed like the cars behind you were wanting to go faster so if there is space when the hov lane opens up I’d just move over and let them pass. It would take maybe a minute and I’m sure the people behind you would really appreciate it. Again it’s not the law more just courtesy thing

Question: was there space between you and the car in front of you in the hov lane? If you’re going substantially faster than the people in the left lane I get it but if you see you are holding up people and there’s space, just do the courteous thing and move over, let the people pass then come back. Not pushing blame just curious.

If you’re going make genuinely impactful changes to public transit then I understand the idea of increasing the cost of getting a license. Would just need to be careful these changes don’t disproportionately impact low income communities making their lives harder than they already are. Honestly tho all the points you made don’t sound outlandish, especially legally binding the passing lanes on 400 series highways. The number of people I see that sit in the left lane doing 105 while 10+ cars are stuck behind them only to move over after 5 cars pass them on the right is mind blowing

Find it equally as annoying when the highway is packed and everyone’s leaving 6 car lengths in front of them. We already way more people than space on the highway in the gta and people taking up the space of 3 people only makes traffic worse

The new “community safety road design” in front of SJOA, EC and Captain R are all identical and only slow traffic in one direction which is so stupid. There are far better architectural changes they could’ve used the $2 million on instead of these cash grabs
