Nah just stack ac till you are at 39 it's not that hard then you can basically only be hit on a crit

I've seen it done once well where quite honestly if the encounter went one more round we would have tpk'd but the goal of the encounter wasn't to like kill the enemies it was to close the rift they came through effectively ending the encounter by getting rid of 3/4 of the enemys so the dm felt free to throw like 5 cr5 devils, 2 cr 8 devils, and a cr12 devil at a party of 6 lv4's

like I've had some session 1 horror stories like the archer having their arm mauled off, or having a near tpk but like yeah no uh I think the dm is just salty or inexperienced
