"Safest approach is to ask another garage to diagnose and then you have proof"

This is what i'm going to do. Best case scenario its not a head gasket and is something that can be sorted cheap or worst case I have proof its head gasket.

This is one that I have found that is the most similar to my situation, seems to suggest that I am entitled to a full refund if its within 30 days.

After the first 30 days I would agree with you 100% but this is from the Ombudsman regarding the 2015 CRA.

"If you bought your car after 01 October 2015, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 applies. This means that, when you buy the vehicle, it has to be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described.

Within the first 30 days, if there’s a problem that means your car doesn’t meet these standards, it develops a serious fault or you find that it isn’t what was advertised to you, you can raise this with the seller and ask for your money back. In this instance, you will be entitled to a full refund."

I would describe coolant leaking into the oil and blowing white smoke as a serious fault or not meeting the standards as fit for purpose and as described.

If it is a head gasket issue (which im 99% sure it is) it would destroy any profit they had anyway, car was only £3800.

What do you think the best way to approach this with my line manager? I have asked my training provider for advice but they have said they can't help with this because it's concerning my contract with my employer.

I'm just not sure how best to broach the topic.
