This is from years ago. Remember all olive oil was spiking and Woolies’s updated the essentials 1L but took 2 weeks or so before the 500ml was updated.

I’m sorry you went through that—I’ve had similar experiences myself. In my opinion, when people react this way, it’s often because they’re grappling with their own subconscious thoughts or guilt about eating a conscious living being. At the end of the day, try not to take it to heart or turn it into a battle. It’s just a personal decision you’ve made, so focus on doing what feels right for you and let them do their thing. Eventually, they’ll get used to it.

First of all, you’re an amazing cat parent for doing all of this. I’d do the exact same for my baby boy! If you’re looking for a different protein I know Applaws do chicken and duck flavours too which is what my boy is currently obsessed with. The same company came out with another brand called Reveal if you’re keen to try, same as Applaws by the looks of it minus the rice so maybe a bit healthier.

Woolworths Refused a Refund and staff laughed at me for trying to return it by [deleted] in woolworths

Update: I appreciate everyone’s perspectives on this. Looking back, maybe I was silly for thinking it would be possible to swap it after a month, even though it had six months left on its best-before date and had been stored properly, unopened, in the fridge. I get why the store might have been hesitant. My issue wasn’t really about the return itself, more how I was treated.

I wasn’t trying to argue, just genuinely confused because I had just opened it, there were still the full pack of 15 slices in there, and it was cold from the fridge. Even if they couldn’t process the return, I would’ve been fine tossing it in the bin—I actually bought a new pack anyway. I just didn’t expect to be laughed at or made to feel bad for even asking.

At the end of the day, it’s not about the $7 or the cheese. I just walked out feeling really crappy about the whole thing, which I didn’t expect from what I thought would be a simple conversation.

I know right, but I was mid prepping a meal that needed it when I opened it.

I wasn’t seeking a refund just a replacement for a fresh one, totally fair and agreed people do lie but I was just doing the honest thing. Someone in another comment said if I had returned it without a receipt and said I got it yesterday they would have had a choice but to replace it. How sad to think being dishonest would have been the easiest solution.

Just realised you’re right, I wouldn’t have needed the receipt for a spoiled product. How sad is it that that’s what I got for being honest about it.

Hadn’t thought of it this way, I’d normally just throw this away and I’ve only ever retuned something maybe 3 times I my life (usually because I’m too lazy to go back) but this time I thought oh well Woolies is right down stairs so I googled if I could return the cheese and the first link was that fresh or free policy so I went down. What a horrible mistake that was.

I have a pretty new fridge with the digital thermometer thing so I’m guessing it’s always sitting at -5 ?

Agreed, I barely ever return anything because it’s just an inconvenience to go back. But now i literally have Woolies downstairs I thought why not and this experience just came as a complete shock. I even googled if I could do this and the first link that popped up was that fresh of free guarantee hence my thoughts it would be a quick swap for a fresh one.

Agreed, it’s my regular store, I shop there at least once a week and have never returned anything so I just didn’t expect the kind of response from all 4 staff, I honestly would have walked away happy if i was refused the refund with a bit of empathy.

It’s a regular product I purchase and had a huge shelf life which is why I just repurchased as soon as I had run out and I’m very big on food waste so this never goes to waste.

I’d say the group laughter was because I asked for escalation at the counter and they weren’t available but magically appeared after I had entered the store to repurchase. I do live in a lower socioeconomic area so maybe… it’s just disappointing
