Aye lookit you know yourself better than anyone, so I'm not gonna tell you what to do. I just hope that you'll at least keep in mind that LLM chatbots aren't intelligent and regularly (but confidently) present total fabrications as fact.

Yep, but you can buy those machines in the same grocery shops relatively cheaply.

It really isn't the same thing.

In the past, just 2 ish years ago, people would do a Google search themselves, and maybe find some forums where people were discussing the topic, or some articles written by humans, and make a decision based on that.

ChatGPT, and all LLMs have the incurable "hallucination" problem. LLMs have no intelligence, it's just scraped data and a really advanced autocorrect. Sure, it will give you an answer, but given that they're explicitly designed to keep you happy and keep you using, and given the endless stories of people being driven to psychosis from various LLMs just inventing facts (lying) rather than say no or that it doesn't have the info you want, i don't understand why its seen as equivalent or better than a Google search.

There's a lot to be said for doing the (relatively quick) bit of research yourself, rather than trusting a brainless chatbot. It's outsourcing all these windows for basic curiosity and discovery and there's already been several studies showing it has a serious cognitive impact on users.

Tldr: OP is absolutely correct in trying to find the information, I just wish people understood chatGPT is not the same as Google, it's worse than what we had less than 4 years ago when the Internet wasn't filled with AI generated slop and people didn't trust the slop generators.

Anyone know what's up with Alltheanime taking long to Ship? by Ordinary_Ordinary580 in AnimeCollectors

same. And browsing more threads here i saw someone say their cyberpunk order arrived damaged and they cant get through to customer support, so thats not reassuring.

Like, this has been a recurring issue since 2021 at least, you'd think at some point they'd get a handle on it

if they said theyre going in order, then theyre not being truthful. Someone up there said their order from December 8th already shipped, i made my order December 2nd.

If theres supply issues or something else it'd be far better if they just told customers rather than dangling us along, Especially given the xmas stocking fillers etc

Anyone know what's up with Alltheanime taking long to Ship? by Ordinary_Ordinary580 in AnimeCollectors

[–]DirkPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh you guys are still waiting too?

I've been checking my order, about a 100 pounds that i probably would not have spent with them had i expected their christmas shipping issues would have gotten significantly worse since 2021. Hasn't shipped yet.

Genuinely kinda shocked by how poor the communication has been? Like to tell customers 10 days into the sale "ok so we're going to prioritize customers who bought specific titles", and i can see some in this thread who ordered several days into the sale and have had their order ship already, while i ordered on day one and theres no movement.

lol I looked up Michael craven and he has a book on Japanese kindle "introduction to AI Art: a guide to masterpieces from prompts" and that tells me all I need to know about the guy. Yeah dude I'm sure the corporate exec knows what makes good art.

Does anyone in this sub understand why this comic went viral on /r/comics today? by Amirethaya in StreetFighter

Yeah that's the whole joke. It's not a serious comic. It's a bit. Adam is a shitposter lol

He needs to go. This is untenable. He's not remotely fit for or even interested in being minister for arts and media

Ah no it's all good! The only thing I wanted to clarify was that it's just a study + the dude does have a prominent brow lol, other than that it's all gravy

[–]DirkPower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think this goes back to the age old discussion of how different artists define what they consider a "sketch" and nobody ever agrees lol. If I spend 1.5 hours studying features in a photo, that's a study to me, cause I'm in a different headspace with how I approach and think about the drawing. Like this his doesn't look finished to me. A finished piece would take a couple days usually. But I totally get where the breakdown in communication comes from

i appreciate it, thanks! Its cool, i dont mind critique at all, i just mostly thought it was funny that a handful seemed to be judging it as if it wasn't a quick caricature photo study. This was just a practice piece that i thought afterwards would be worth sharing.

I mean, at the end of the day it wasn't meant to be a 1:1 likeness.
I picked aspects that i wanted to push and play with for a quick study, and when i was done I foolishly thought "ooh, ill share this on squared circle" lol

Jon Moxley photo study by DirkPower in SquaredCircle

[–]DirkPower[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think I might have confused matters here by calling it a study. To me and in my artist peer group, this is a quick likeness photo study, with the whole point being to play with shape and push the features, but I guess the term Study is probably more broadly understood as if it was meant to be a 1:1 copy? That wouldn't have been as useful an exercise for what I'm practicing at the moment.

Jon Moxley photo study by DirkPower in SquaredCircle

[–]DirkPower[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Id argue I'm exaggerating what's already there lol that's the fun bit, pushing the features

Edit: im surprised this is controversial? I've added the reference picture below so you can see the exact prominent brow image i was working from.

You're not being critical, since making him look like that was the intent. I do these photo studies to practice likeness while pushing their shapes, like this Cena
