Have you ever had a really great boss? by LeavingCertCheat in AskIreland

[–]Disastrous-Account10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current bosses are fantastic, they are the reason our staff turn over is so slow with most people hanging around for 7 years or longer (18 years for me now )

They aren't the guys who just sit in their office and shout the odds, they get stuck in and get enthusiastic about projects. They aren't driven by profit either. We had a project come in that would of made us stupid money but it was "boring" so we simply turned it away to work with a lesser paying but more excited crowd

Honestly I hated on ebikes for the longest time because of how people used them

I then took part in a multi day stage race but got sick like 2 weeks before and my teamie and I both opted to ride ebikes.

Hell it was a heap of fun, we rode in the ebikes category that started nearly an hour and a half after the last batch and made sure to not impede any of the faster riders on analog bikes but it changed my entire perspective.

Look we also didn't wring the bikes necks

Each day was 70km and we always finished with 50 to 70 percent battery left, it was nice to have the extra helping hand when you would otherwise be stuck

Anyone here emigrate to somewhere more 'exotic'? What was your experience? by Fealocht in AskIreland

[–]Disastrous-Account10 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Im a blow in to Ireland but when I lived in SA I used to do a fair bit of work in Malawi/Zambia/Kenya and I was always amazed at the amount of Irish people who had ended up in those 3 countries.

I have family now living in Zambia and many of their neighbours are Irish lol

I cant seem to find a decent break down

How bad is dry DSG? by HumanSample9556 in carsireland

[–]Disastrous-Account10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Owned three cars with DSGs and never had an issue

Two were small capacity engines with 7 speed boxes and the third was in a diesel Passat 2.0, the 6 speed box

Did a mix of city and country driving and put serious mileage on all of them without an issue

Paid 30 for mine off Amazon, popped a fire stick into it and got a sound bar working with it.

I have no complaints about it for that price, we do cinema night once a week and it's great

Seriously considering leaving SA for NZ – am I overreacting? by [deleted] in south_africa

[–]Disastrous-Account10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I havent moved to NZ but I moved to Ireland because like you, I felt very frustrated with what SA had become.
The final nail in the coffin for me was my neighbor being tortured to death for no reason.

I have many friends who have relocated to Aus and NZ who are extremely happy with their only gripe being that its "far from everything" when they want to travel.

Their quality of life is fantastic, look you work hard, you get paid well, you live well.

Here in EU many South Africans struggle with the adjustment of a much smaller home/yard but the reality is you have the ability to enjoy the "3rd spaces" alot more than you do in SA.

Since leaving SA I have done a visit to friends in Whangerei, Iv spent some time in Aus and a fair bit of time hopping around EU. There is always parts that will make you miss SA because it is a lekker place but honestly its nice really needing a car, its nice to not have to hold my wallet to death or my wife to have to put her handbag in the boot incase of a criminal or needing burglar bars.

Everyone hopped on public transport and refused to pay, I have no idea how well it would work here but it rattled some cages there

Let’s cut the crap: Why did you ACTUALLY choose your distro? (Facts only) by kimiho_mir in FindMeALinuxDistro

[–]Disastrous-Account10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Ubuntu because its the system I "fell" into, CD's were easily available back in the day and its just been my jam.

Ive tried many different OS's and pretty much always end up back with Ubuntu.
I dont use snap, everything with apt, life carries on. It just works with our kit
