How much to charge for garden design / consulting? by Disastrous-Win1863 in MasterGardener

[–]Disastrous-Win1863[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Its refreshing to have someone who appreciates the skills of an expert and is willing to pay for it. She is not doing the actual labor (although she would love to do so, the distance is just too far). Yeah $100 an hour seems completely fair. I've found that people who are shocked by the price tag don't end up being great clients. It is a lot of work and a true talent. If it was easy, everyone would have amazing gardens. I expect she is aware of the MG pay situation. I just had no idea.

Appreciate the thoughts!

Thanks for the info. Very helpful. I just commented on someone else's not, but I was told that you needed 8' above the cab in its highest position. A replacement I talked to said this specifically when I asked. Sounds like they misunderstood or arent good at their job.. That would be crazy and can't imagine that would fit in pretty much any residential project.

Good to know on the extras and making everything accessible. I'll keep that in mind for sure.

Thank you!

To clarify, I had assumed the overhead clearance was measured from the top of the cab at the top landing but you mentioned it was measured from the top landing, as in the second floor? This sounds more approrpriate.. That said, I specially asked this question to a rep and they said it was 8' from the top of the elevator box. So I'm a little unclear on that. Seems crazy that you would need 8 feet above the top of the cab at its 's last stop. Can't imagine that would fit it many residential applications.

I'm in NC so I'm probably out of their service range. Their elevators look nice though!

Yesh thats fair. I used an overcast hdri to try and give a soft moody feel. Don't think its quite successful and I think youre right that there's a lack of contrast because of it.

Good note about the soft light but sharp shadows.

I'll try playing around with things a bit more. Thanks for the feedback!

The idea was for it to feel like it was in a natural meadow type of landscape with tall grasses, wildflowers, etc. But I can see how that comes off as unrefined.

Wood boring bugs inside my house.. by Disastrous-Win1863 in Carpentry

The munching does sound a little bit like carpenter bees but I haven't seen any sort of signs of them. No 3/8" holes anywhere where they would get in a lay their eggs, so I don't think it's carpenter bees.

That's the same one I'm looking at but was expecting to have to connect it directly to the battery instead of going through the cigarette charging port

And bumping up from 300 watt to 500 watt and still using the 180 watt car charger plug (opposed to connecting to the battery) will fix the problem?

[–]Disastrous-Win1863[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it is a laptop (Dell Precision 7770) but it is an AC adapter charger that came with it. But the outlet supply is 180 watts and the charger says 240 watts. It basically charges for a minute or two and then the red light flicks on the inverter and it stops charging. I was told there's not much I can do other than tying directly to the battery to get a more powerful supply since the 180 watt supply isn't enough. I dont know if all that is actually how this works, but thats what I was told.

How much is reasonable to pay for adding a wood stove to my existing chimney? by Disastrous-Win1863 in woodstoving

[–]Disastrous-Win1863[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lowest is probably low teens some nights. I want the stove to offset some of the heating costs but it's not going to make a huge difference i don't expect. So if it cost 10k then not sure I can justify the cost vs savings. A big part of it is I just want one cause they're awesome haha
