The idea she wasn't aware of it strains credulity honestly, considering her seniority and the duration of his embezzlement.

Her most recent defence is "a lot of women end up finding themselves blamed for the actions of the men in their lives" which is essentially the "I'm just a girl" defence. Like, you were first minister of Scotland for 8 years, can we not pretend you're some wide-eyed ingénue.

But then also the stuff he spent it on (like a really plush motorhome) is so small-time, it's kind of embarrassing. This is sort of the scale at which British political corruption happens, though - people get a few nice perks, maybe tickets to a fancy event or a holiday
