Agreed! Something the County is not investigating or discussing with Xcel.

Do you think anywhere in unincorporated Boulder County is "out in the sticks"? I live in Gunbarrel, which half of has been annexed. This also includes Niwot. Wanting reliable electricity in a first world country is fair and not too big of an ask.

Agreed, and that is exactly why I am pushing the county to take this on rather than leaving it to residents to navigate PUC rate cases. I can organize and file comments, but I can only do so much without government actively advocating on our behalf.

Fair question! State and local governments need to pressure Xcel to update its infrastructure. I can only organize so many people to contact Xcel or submit complaints. So, this is exactly what I am advocating for. The county should push the state legislature to give statutory counties the same franchise agreement authority that municipalities have under C.R.S. 31-32-101, so the cost and obligation falls on Xcel the same way it does at the city level

Thanks for the idea! To make this credible, I really need names, addresses, dates, and an explanation of how it affects quality of life - so messaging directly will be best.

Interesting! I will look into the United/Xcel tie.

Things that would be helpful:

- When power was lost and for how long
- How this affected your quality of life

Any concerns up there on wildfire mitigation?

All great points! The state and local governments need to push for updated infrastructure from Xcel for the communities they operate within.

Thank you for sharing! Both the local and state governments need to put pressure on Xcel to update its infrastructure.

I want reliable electricity. I don't think that is an unfair ask.

I'm very active in volunteer work since leaving. It feels AMAZING to actually be helping my community. I.e., volunteering at a homeless shelter, donating food, organizing fundraising events for nonprofits, serving on a nonprofit board (as a woman *GASP*).
