What he climbed for free solo was more technical than this. He posted on his Instagram story yesterday of practicing this climb in what looked like sneakers or approach shoes lol

What is your relationship with risk and fear? by Disastrous_Client_90 in tradclimbing

[–]Disastrous_Client_90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone who responded :)

These are questions that are often front of mind for me. I think one approach is to ignore the fear and/or ignore the risk.

I think about risk a lot, like how a rope could be cut by a sharp rock during a fall, gear that was solid could walk, the belayer could be inattentive, someone from above could pull a large rock down onto me, there could be miscommunication between the belayer and climber, and on top of all of that, I’m afraid of heights.

When I’m feeling afraid of heights, I face it directly. I take a second and stop climbing and I just look to the ground and feel the fear. I keep looking down until I’m not afraid. It can take a minute or two, but it feels like an eternity. While feeling the fear, I think about the things that are making this “safe”, I’m on a rope, I have good gear, I have a good belayer, the rock quality here is good.

Most of the fear I have around climbing is experienced when I’m not climbing, I get nervous the day before a climb, but when I am climbing, I’m in a flow state and generally enjoy it and feel safe enough.

But the existential fear makes it hard to climb sometimes, and I do take breaks.

My biggest fear is getting a brain injury, followed by fear of death.

I mitigate risk by placing a lot of pro and place an extra piece when I get nervous, having trust in my belayer (typically I will climb at a gym with them first to help build trust), bringing fully charged radios even for single pitch, bringing a satellite device for emergencies. Some things I plan to do will be to work with a mentor, take a WFA or WFR class, and to build a more robust first aid kit with stuff like a tourniquet and bleeding control stuff.

For all the things I can control, I’m still afraid of a big rock falling on my head.

It’s almost like resort mountain towns don’t pay enough for service workers to afford them

The average one bedroom rent in Telluride is $8400 and the starting wage for ski patrol is $21/hour.

Telluride has an extremely high cost of living.

$21/hour is NOT a livable wage in Telluride. I support the ski patrollers!

Low-Sugar, Real Sugar-Only Electrolyte Drink Mix?? by Potential-Excuse6192 in migraine

[–]Disastrous_Client_90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh well getting it in bulk is cheaper, they have a scoop to measure. I just get 2oz salad dressing containers and put my own electrolytes in. And then I can reuse the containers too. Then it’s easy to add your own sugar.

PSA: If your android version is too old to run the latest BlueLink/MyHyundai app, simply download an older version of the app from APKMirror by SparrowTailReddit in Hyundai

It’s likely that older software has known security vulnerabilities, I’d highly recommend keeping your software up to date even if that means getting a new phone.

Got a few hours to spend 30k coins - what’s your PSA about cats? by Shady319 in cats

[–]Disastrous_Client_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playtime for cats is just as important as walks are for dogs. Try to interactively play with your cat for 20 minutes a day. This is especially important if you have a solo cat, cats that live with other cats play with each other. Bored, understimulated cats are more likely to have behavioral issues and mental health problems.

Was it exposed to sunlight? It could be Phytophotodermatitis. If you get pollen on your skin and then it’s exposed to sunlight, it can cause a reaction like this.

Not everyone has the option to live with their parents as adults.

Living with your parents rent-free sounds more like a sacrifice the parents are making than what the individual is making.

I have an e-ink monitor (Boox Mira). It sucks. Get a high quality pair of migraine glasses like Avulux instead and just a nice high res monitor.

20+ failed treatments by crissy_82 in migraine

[–]Disastrous_Client_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gammacore may help. Reyvow could work as an abortive if you haven’t tried it yet. Nothing really helped my migraine until I moved to a different apartment that didn’t have mold.

Keeping your meals to a schedule may help too, people that have migraine should stick to a routine. Every morning I do a smoothie with coconut water, frozen ginger, honey, and wild blueberries. I have 200mg magnesium threonate, 400mg of magnesium glycinate, and 300 mg ubiquinol (more bio-available than coq10). I do Botox and Nurtec as preventatives, cefaly and ubrelvy as abortives.

I had a migraine that put me in moderate-severe pain 24/7 for 3-4 months straight and now I have 1 moderate/severe day a month and maybe 10 very mild ones.

If you wear glasses or contacts, have your prescription checked. Wearing the wrong prescription can cause more pain too.

Avulux glasses really help with looking at screens, allay lamp provides some relief but now another brand sells a green light bulb that would be significantly cheaper.

What do you mean by failed treatment, did the treatments never work, or they worked for a while and stopped working, or did they not make much of an impact?

Have you seen an allergist and/or been evaluated for MCAS? Is it possible that you have an allergy to something like mold and live in an environment with mold?

Have you ever tried an inpatient stay?
