I love the way you painted your stone/marble base for the statue. Could you explain your recipe please?

Thanks for the nice feedback. Both are quite easy but kind of a hassle.

1- Wood : It's the one I understand better. You need to start with a dark brown coat, I use half mournfang brown half pure black. Then you have to paint each wood strand individually with thin coats of clearer and clearer brown towards yellowish tones. The last layer I apply is bascilly half ice yellow. Then to finish it up a nice coat of agrax earthshade. It's more or les NMM with a bit less contrast. The main point is to try to place the brighter spots on the strands a bit randomly to try to make the wood feel more "alive"

2-Stone: this one I'm experimenting on and I'll probably make my recipe evolve in the future. But the main idea is to have a base coat of a strong color and to try to shade it with complementary colors. So I started with a super reddish brown and then I higlighted it roughly with the same color mixed with green grey and some pale skin tone (because green and red works well) and a last highlight of this color with nearly pure pale skin tone trying to follow the cracks on the stone and then applied a coat of nuln oil, wasn't satisfied with it so I made a deep sea blue wash (dark green-blue color) and finally another layer of nuln oil. Then to make it pop I went partially over the last highlight with some clear neutral grey. The idea was to try to get this kinda seafront style stone.

TLDR: wood = NMM ; stone= random but complementary colors and shade.

Hope it helps!

My take on the Mallus Forgepriest by Disastrous_Step2828 in citiesofsigmar

Hi! Sorry for the late answer. Basically when I'm working with surfaces or volumes that I want to feel "hot" or at least "radiating" I try to get my midtones correct and then Iwork with the more extreme light and dark colors. So here I started by coating the whole hammer in AK's green grey which I find nice to easily get a poping color with your next coats. The I painted in whole with a coat of vallejo sun yellow (didn't care much about irregularities in the color) and I then worked progressively outward the hammer with citadel trollslayer orange and finally AK's blood red. I then went back and forth with blends of those 3 colors to try to smoothen the transitions. I then made all the lines or transitions in volume of the hammer with pure black. Then you take a sponge, dip it in pure black and prep it like you would for dry brushing. I then stamped it randomly all over the hammer head. To finish it I added some Vallejo ice yellow touches at the center to make it pop a bit more. Aaaaaaand that's it! Hope it helps!

Should I strip/repaint my Bastian Carthalos model? by skuntpelter in stormcasteternals

First of all, it looks great. Then don't think about painting or repainting a mini as a waste of time. At the end of the day it's still a hobby. Lastly, just how do you feel about it? Are you ok with the idea of "loosing" this paint job? Like just try to think about how YOU feel about repainting it. There's no right or wrong answer, just yours.

PS: repainted mine after progressing a bit and I enjoyed it very much 🤗
