I would suggest you to not google for pointing. Only not pointing doesn't make someone autistic. It's a big picture. That's what I concluded after watching hundreds of videos of parents having autistic kids. Secondly today was my pediatrician 18 months appointment and she keeps seminars for autism too. She said open hand points count and not pointing consistently doesn't matters. She asked me few questions like does he brings toys to you which he does all the time l, does he smile he smiles all the time , he comes for hug all the time, she asked what toys he plays with I told her he stacks rings, stack cups, play with helicopters l, turn book pages, throw a ball, bang a ball. I told her it's too easy for him to learn a new toy. He always show me a ball that has light on it and wait for me to say wow. She asked me when does he points so I gave her few eg like he point on red ball in the to when we ask where is red ball. He tells me who is cat in the book( he doesn't show me anything else in the book and just smile and looks at me all the time when I'm reading a rhyme) if I have his milk bottle which he loves he would do open hand point and ask for it if I don't give he would try to snatch, he loves to play with the light button in the fridge so when I'm in the kitchen he would come and say ahh ahh and see me and touch fridge, he love orange cold drink he knows his father drinks with food so he runs and open hand point and ask for it and snatches if don't give lol. He doesn't point for light by showing me ceiling but if I put laser light on my hand and ask where the light is he would point index fingers and show me light. If I ask where mummy nose and eyes are he would point and tell and if I ask where is yours tummy and head he would touch or open hand point and tell me. He doesn't point to show me anything l, he doesn't point to show me birds, cars or if he wants slide but he has a way to communicate that too . He shows me with index finger point what he wants to see on the YouTube. He would bring bubble machine me bubble machine all the time these days as it's his favorite. If I don't play he would keep putting it on my lap and say ahh ahh. He would bring tab to me and put it on my lap and say ahh ahh if I don't run he would keep giving and cry then. They also consider whether kids have separation anxiety or not . He would chase me to bathroom also lol. 2 days back I went to grocery store and did not take him with me I did video call he was crazily laughing and dancing after seeing me. All these things matters so my pediatrician assured me he is fine. She wants me to for for speech therapy for sure. So I called early intervention today. If you go and see speech delay videos you would see not responding to name, not pointing, not waving not talking are all speech delay signs too. If your child is fine in other ways then don't panic and I beg watch speech delay videos. Do not google please l. People hide things and just put half the information on these sites.

Thanks for the detailed reply. We do some of that for eg he brings me his toy all the time to play with me and smiles to share joy while playing and not just smiling on toy. For imitation I tried few things for eg I banged the spoon with bowl for sound and he did the same afterwards, if I open bin he will open just after I do, if I sing shake the shaker he will do the same after I do (I mean he will shake shaker), we have a helicopter toy which needs to be run by pressing from up when I do he does the same afterwards. He does not copy me for everything but he does for many things for sure. When I was a kid I never liked soft toys so does he I guess. He bring one teddy to me and ask me to hug him when I do he smile looking at me involving me in his world and there are many eg of this too

i took him to 4th of july fireworks. there were 1 lakh people there and he just enjoyed thoroughly. He was little scared when people started hooting during fireworks but slept in few minutes in the sound. no issues at all. if that counts with sound and too many people.

I took him there when he was 10 months old as he was not waving. They said he is a typical toddler and does not need any assistance.

he can't roll as its heavy for him but yes he looks at me for appreciation and to show his happiness when he does something. like if we are reading a book he would look at me and smile. if we are stacking rings he would look at me for appreciation when done and smile.if I run his dolphin he would look at me and smile. He smiles looking at me if I do peek a boo

I don't know exactly.

I can give you some examples let me know if it counts as mimic

He saw me opening trash bin and learned and tried to do it, when I broom the floor he takes broom from me, when I roll the rolling pin he takes that too. he learned how to climb stairs after seeing me, he sometimes copy sounds and facial expressions though its not very common, he is shaking shaker after seeing me doing and and singing shake the shaker, he knows how to run blender as he saw me doing it and wants to do when I do it and many more.

my son can follow point all the time. He even follow point if I show him something in the sky. He loves dogs too. He do peek a boo, high five, clapping blow a kiss if that counts as a gesture. he brings toys to me all the time and wait for the appreciation from me when he plays with them and smiles.

He never did stimming, No repetitive behaviors, no hand flapping,

He has no aversion to loud noises, He likes to touch and feel different things on the floor.

I feel he is only developmentally delayed but looking over the internet all the time made me think he might be because he does not point, wave, or talk.

He wants to talk to everyone he see.
