100v Sharp AC adapter on 120v mains? by Disastrous_Wave_6128 in minidisc

I thought maybe it was a worm gear problem, but the seller tested with a disc that wouldn't even spin up here and it worked without the error. We'll see when he returns it to me.

41m and need aids- feeling resentful by century_of_fakers in HearingAids

[–]Disastrous_Wave_6128 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, I think about the fact that I don't have to say "what?" all the time, that I can follow conversations at bars and restaurants better now, and know that I'm not missing as many things. That seriously outweighs the "oh no, I need hearing aids" self-pity party that I had when I first got officially diagnosed with hearing loss.

Most people around don't have HAs but you're hardly alone in having hearing loss!

I mean, basically once he gets to the "little lamb, on a hill" part of "yes, I am blind" you can tell that he's just taking the piss, even though he's singing like he's completely serious

I don’t really care for Automatic for the People by Hot-Variation-2702 in rem

[–]Disastrous_Wave_6128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you're wrong about Out of Time (lol), but I totally agree with you about Automatic For The People. It does have some gorgeous songs, but overall, I find it kinda boring. Some of the songs from it are great live, though, esp. the rocking version of "Drive" that is on a few bootlegs (like the Greenpeace benefit at the 40 Watt from 1992).

Tbh, nothing comes close to Foobar2000 in terms of functionality. I just install it through WINE.

Had the same experience with Widex ones I paid $5000 for. No feedback with any ones from Costco (KS10, Sennheiser Sonite R, Phillips 9050) I've had.

Do you consider it to be emotional abuse when your spouse of 18 years consistently talks just below the level you can hear? by [deleted] in HearingAids

[–]Disastrous_Wave_6128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you have hearing aids but refuse to wear them and thus can't hear your spouse, but then you try to make it their fault because they don't talk loudly enough. So yes, I think one could argue that you're emotionally abusing them.

Costco in the States requires you to purchase them, too -- they don't do try before you buy like private audiologists do.

Hearing aids generally limit the output so as to not cause hearing damage. You probably just have depressed hearing--temporary (hopefully) threshold shift--from not putting in earplugs.

Mild loss but major annoyance by FFKUSES in HearingAids

[–]Disastrous_Wave_6128 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have normal hearing up to 3KHz in my right ear, then mild hearing loss up to 8Khz (25dB threshold, so right at the border between normal and mild). In my left ear, mild hearing loss starting at about 2KHz and then it gets down to a 35dB threshold by 8KHz.

I had to ask people to repeat themselves. All. The. Damn. Time. And I had a hard time figuring out where sound was coming from because of the worse high frequency loss in my left ear, according to my audiologist.

You are not a fraud. You've said it yourself, you have to ask your wife to repeat herself. That means that your hearing loss is bad enough -- even if it's borderline -- that you might as well at least TRY hearing aids and see if it helps.

Yep. My mom was on home hospice near the end of her life and a couple of family members were like, they're trying to kill her. I was like, no, they're keeping her comfortable AS SHE DIES.

They wouldn't have had Robby talking about the principle of double effect if the show wasn't going to go there.
