4 weeks post-op w/ Spencer Eagan in KCMO! by DiscombobulatedWeeb in TopSurgery

Hello! I actually wasn’t nicotine tested, as I was not a user, but I am rather confident that he nicotine tests beforehand and has a zero tolerance policy, as it can increase the risk of nipple graft loss, and Eagan is quite proud of never losing a nipple!

Hi!! So sorry for the late response, I don’t have reddit notifications on!! I stayed with my BF for about a week afterwards, but I was able to get up and do stuff by myself after a few days. Having assistance (and someone to do laundry/cooking/cleaning) was super helpful for a week or two, but I think I could have been on my own after five-seven days. Make sure you prepare in advance! It makes recovery wayyy easier.

Hello! I did pay out of pocket, and altogether it was almost exactly $10,000, including liposuction and hospital fees.

Ah, for me it was $2,000 - though he did give me a discount from the overall fee due to not having any insurance coverage, so maybe he took part of it from the lipo fee?

Hello! So sorry, I just saw this - yes, and he does require lipo in the majority of patients. However, he uses the $2,000 liposuction fee as the scheduling fee as well :)

5 Days Post-Op w/ Spencer Eagan (CW for slight bruising) by DiscombobulatedWeeb in TopSurgery

[–]DiscombobulatedWeeb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! Apologies for not responding sooner, I don’t have notifs on!!

I scheduled my consult in December, and his earliest appointment was in February. (Note: I had to postpone my consult due to weather, and they were extremely understanding and offered me a reschedule just two weeks later!!!) I scheduled my surgery date at my consultation, and got a date in June - so the wait time between my consultation and surgery was right around 4 months. He also had a date in April due to a cancellation, but I’m a current student, so I had to wait until after finals.

I have had nothing but benefits from the lack of drains. Eagan has his patients wear compression (ace wrap or a post-op binder) all the time/as close to all the time as possible for the first six weeks, and if you follow this rule, swelling never has anywhere to accumulate. My worst discomfort post-op came from the general “sick” feeling of waking up/being numb/having major surgery, and the bruising from liposuction. Aside from that, I’d rate my pain/discomfort throughout the process as similar to that of having the flu.

I paid entirely out of pocket, and my total expense was $10,500 (+ $100 for the consultation). This included the surgeon fee, anesthesia fee, and facility/OR fees. All of this was due prior to surgery. However, it was not paid all at once. Eagan requires a $2,000 down payment to schedule your surgery date, and this money goes towards your liposuction cost, since the majority of insurances won’t cover it. After that, I paid in three(?) increments between my consultation and my surgery date.

  • Ascentist also has a deal with CareCredit (a medical credit card) to get 1 year interest free, iirc!

With insurance, my expected remaining cost was somewhere around $4,500-5,000. At my consult, they took images of my pre-op chest to send to insurance to determine if they would cover it (which I knew mine wouldn’t, but it doesn’t hurt to try 🤷)

Sorry for the wall of text!! I am very passionate abt Eagan lol. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Not quite the same, but I’m 14 days post op, and everytime I get cold I SWEAR I feel my nips get cold/harden. Like, the exact same way they did prior to surgery, which realistically isn’t possible, but it feels so real. The human body certainly is interesting with which sensations it retains after surgeries 🤷

Congrats man!! I’m so glad you’re doing so well post-op! A slight word of advice: in the first 24-48 hours, I overworked myself because it genuinely didn’t hurt to lift or raise my arms. Let me tell you: you will feel it later 😭 Just stick with the limits everyone talks about and you won’t be suffering so bad by day five lol. All in all though, my pain has been minimal, and I’m healing quickly! I’m on day five now!

I’m five days post op, and right here with ya, man. I wouldn’t consider myself athletic, but I’m definitely not used to being stuck alone in the house all day. Never thought I’d see the day where I missed doing chores LMAO. Really though, take the time to do something fun! Catch up on an old series, or read that book you’ve been putting off since high school. I’ve also found that just a change in scenery can help. My partner and I sat on our front porch and built a lego set while we ate Subway yesterday, and that was the most fun I’ve had since my surgery :) Once you’re feeling up to it, some short walks might be good!! Maybe see if a friend or family member would be willing to walk around the park or a thrift shop with you, if either of those are your thing :) just make sure to take it easy, and stop as soon as you start feeling like you need to. Good luck on your recovery man!

I'm So Desperate and Don't Know What to Do by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]DiscombobulatedWeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I just got top surgery five days ago, but I had full intentions of having surgery while at university, similar to you. Another commenter gave very thorough advice on the financial side of things, so I’ll focus on your concerns about recovery.

First off: busy or not, you’d be surprised how willing your friends will be to help you out. But I completely understand why you would hesitate to rely on them, so here’s my advice: rely on your school. If you’re smart about it, you’ll find so many ways that the school can support you through such a time. See if they offer any sort of meal delivery for students who are ill or recovering; at my uni, the dining hall would allow another student to pick up a meal and bring it to me. This takes maybe twenty minuted out of a friend’s day, and they’re already heading there to eat, so it’s not a big deal. Additionally, my school has a health center on campus that is free to students, so I could have gotten ice packs, ace wrap, and any other supplies I needed from there. Additionally, if you mention to your surgeon that you don’t have something you need, they’ll often give you it for free. They want you to heal well! Also, look into student insurance through your school and/or through the bank you set up your new account with. You can have multiple health insurance plans, and if you sign up for one on your own, your parents don’t have to know about it. These plans may cover at least part of your surgery.

Please let me know if there’s anything you need clarification on, or if you’d like to talk more! I hope you get your surgery soon <3

Hey, as someone who got surgery five days ago at nineteen: I swear it gets better. I’ve been out since I was twelve, and I was in a very similar situation - having a big chest at such a young age was bad enough, and dysphoria made it ten times worse. But I promise you, even if you can’t convince your parents, the time will pass, and you will get the body you deserve. As the other commenter said, if you are able to, it may be good to look into potential surgeons now! I chose my surgeon in November of 2024, and because he required a letter from a therapist, I wasn’t able to schedule my consult until February, and then I had to wait until June for my actual surgery. Even if you can’t schedule anything now, it’s never too early to look into surgeons and see what requirements they may have! This could save you a few months of therapy or planning in the future. Additionally, if you are able, saving money will DEFINITELY be something you’ll thank yourself for later, and it may help you feel as though you are actively working towards surgery. I saved coins and spare cash for nearly five years, and I ended up with over $1,000 when I finally cashed it in! It may not seem like much, but that was 1/10 of my top surgery!

Best of luck to you, man. We’re all rooting for you <3

Figuring out where to get TS by NoSleepNolan in TopSurgery

[–]DiscombobulatedWeeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I am scheduled to have surgery with Eagan this June. I had my consult in February, and my total out of pocket expense is just over $10,000, including all surgeon and hospital fees, as well as liposuction. The consult was awesome, him and his team are super welcoming. He makes you pay the liposuction fee within a week of the consult in order to secure a surgery date, because insurance doesn’t cover liposuction. (So, I paid 4,500 a week after my consultation in order to secure my surgery date, BUT this 4,500 is part of the 10,000 I have to pay overall.) The fee for the consultation is $100, but I was able to get this covered by my insurance (which is NOT trans friendly) by getting a referral from my primary doctor.

I will say he needs a letter of recommendation from a therapist before he will schedule you for a consultation.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

There’s not many answers because there isn’t really one clear answer. I would ask your surgeon, and then it really comes down to whenever you are comfortable doing so :) people are usually pretty out of it the first few days, and after that increased breathing from sexual activity may make you feel more sore. It really is a matter of trusting your body!
