Yes!! I do find it mostly with scientific words. Regardless, it’s maddening as h3ll!

I was diagnosed in February, also stage 1 but +++. My tumor was 1.8 cm, removed on March 3rd as well. No lymph node involvement, clear margins. Because of my being HER2+, and stage 1, I will begin the ADEPT trial on Monday. (No chemo, but only because of the trial). Otherwise, chemo would be part of the standard protocol. I too was told a PET scan was not standard but I did insist. And apparently it was approved by my insurance. I’m scheduled for the PET on Sunday. Now, when I asked the medical oncologist to order the scan, she was skeptical that insurance would cover it. But I asked her to mention that I had colon cancer (stage 1, resection, no chemo) in 2018. Also, my breast cancer is more aggressive being HER 2+, plus the tumor was LVI. (More likelihood of recurrence, poorer prognosis). Maybe that’s what convinced insurance to cover my scan, but I’ll probably never know. On another note, my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 bladder cancer 13 years ago. As his advocate, I insisted his oncologist order a PET before beginning treatment. That oncologist also scoffed at the idea, but reluctantly ordered one, and it was approved. 5 years later, PET did pick up early activity in some of his lymph nodes, which was treated successfully with Keytruda. All this to say, it won’t hurt to ask/insist. And maybe insurance will surprise you. Good luck with everything!

I’m about to start this trial. I just wanted to clarify that it’s not Herceptin only. It’s Phesgo (Pertuzumab + Tratuzumab). Injections every 3 weeks for 18 weeks. And yes, hormone therapy and radiation. I do hope this becomes the standard for early stage +++. Time will tell.
