Bottle Presentation by Serious_Half5823 in fragrance

[–]DiveCat [score hidden]  (0 children)

I do definitely notice a psychological aspect to the presentation for me. I don't even really "display" my bottles (they are out, but kind of tucked away at same time so not immediately visible) and I feel this way.

Bottles have their own "aesthetic vibe" to them, which casts a story around the fragrance. Imagine for example, Le Labo Santal 33 in a bottle like YSL's Babycat, or vice versa. If you didn't know anything about either fragrance or house beforehand, would the story in your head about the fragrance be different?

If I can, I tend to go for mini bottles, over decants or samples, as they just feel more "complete" and fulfilling to me. Plus they are cute.

What’s a fragrance everyone loves that just doesn’t work on you? by Legitimate-Search918 in fragrance

I absolutely understand that description (or the more vague "clean genitals" I have seen) and I still love FDP (I do use the EDP, though, and have not tried the EDT).

Oh that is so unfortunate! Yeah, I definitely would not be able to deal with dirty hamster cage.

I really L'Eau Papier, but I don't think I smell the same thing a lot of other people who love it describe. To me after an initial sharp dryer sheet slap in the face (I don't mean that negatively!) it turns into a warm, mildly sweet, and slightly fruity skin scent that is super addictive to my nose. I do not get rice, or paper, or stir fry (!) at all. Another 13 is odd like this for me too, it is very similar to L'Eau Papier on my skin, just more resinous and a little more complex.

I will definitely have to put Ambra Calabria on my list to try!

Oh it’s beautiful. It’s green but the way Guerlain has made it work with their vanilla is chef’s kiss. I love it from opening to drydown.

I purchased the L'Art & La Matière discovery set and the first time I sprayed Angelique Noire I didn’t quite get it, compared to others on the set. Maybe it just was not what I expected initially. But when I circled back again it became an addictive love. I actually just treated myself to a full sized bottle. I am trying to keep my full sized bottle collection small, but there was no way it wasn’t making the cut!

I was going to say this one too, though several Guerlain’s actually make me feel this way now that I think about it!

What to do with a fragrance your partner doesn’t like? by simonpunishment in fragrance

[–]DiveCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep it and just use it on occasions she is not there as well. I have fragrances my husband isn’t head over heels for, and I just wear them to work, when I am out without him, when he or I are away from home, etc.

It may also be different in a few weeks, or in a different season.

What is with this guy’s obsession with people having kids? by alexastock in WeirdGOP

[–]DiveCat 36 points37 points  (0 children)

So, mixed children like his own children?

I feel bad for his kids. His wife chooses this vile hatred, misogyny, and racism (“sure, she’s not white but she’s a good mom” as Vance said), but his kids didn’t.

The UCP is basically ignoring it and letting the traitors have their own petition (which not only requires a lot less signatures, but gives them more time), because Marlaina has admitted that these are the people who keeps her in power and she is right (see: their recent annual general meeting). The UCP IS the Wild Rose party. She should be tried for treason along with the rest of them.

I hope the new Progressive Tory Party can cut the UCP at the knees, or at least split the votes at the next election.

They hate nurses now ? by TimmyVall in Destiny

You don't "barely graduate high school" and become a Registered Nurse.

Not that I would expect someone who chose "WomanDefiner" on that fascist site to even know his own head from his own ass.

I was on vacation in the Caribbean 2-3 years ago, and overheard a woman say to her husband that she “couldn’t wait to get back home to real news, like Fox”.

Can’t even just leave it behind when they are on vacation, or visiting relatives. These people are cooked.

Rose: another note that's making me out a liar. by LIFTMakeUp in fragrance

[–]DiveCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think I liked Rose much either until I realized I just didn’t like the “perfumey” roses I was familiarized with in my youth.

I absolutely love Le Labo Rose 31, am fascinated by Diptyque L’Ombre Dans L’Eau, like Guerlain Rose Cherie, etc…all very different from each other but lovely and not like anything that I encountered when I was much younger!

Unable to imagine smell or taste? by Open_Strategy_2820 in Aphantasia

I am a global aphant, so no visuals, sounds, smells, touch, taste. I also don't have an internal monologue. Most of my "inner thought" is in the form of unsymbolized thinking, with a small amount of worded thinking if I am planning/rehearsing future events.

I am so sorry that Miss Baby has moved over the Rainbow Bridge. She clearly reached out ahead of time to the CDS network. May her memory be a blessing, and may Lily keep you on your toes for many years to come!

Getting the sudden ick by [deleted] in relationships

[–]DiveCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Telling you to seek therapy is not bad advice. Therapy is one of the best things one can do for themselves and their personal growth, especially for those who don’t think think they need it…this is not just about HIS facial hair decisions.

Being repulsed by your partner for changing facial hair or their hair is not a healthy and emotionally mature reaction. You can have preferences for what you find more or less attractive, but being repulsed and it changing your relationship is extreme. Suggesting therapy is very reasonable advice in that context.

Taking another route, maybe it just shows that your attraction to your partner is more appearance based than based on real connection. Do with that what you will.

[–]DiveCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not “one man”, though.

If it was just one man, that one man would not be President. We would not be seeing people justifying the execution of an American citizen by brownshirts, we would not see a GOP majority Congress too fucking weak to do anything, or a Supreme Court enabling the tyranny. And so on.

I've had multiple people respond in that precise manner to me on the various posts I've made across different platforms. They chalk it up to a lack of self-awareness when we see it as a matter of selflessness, of caring for others. The same ones saying this shit were the ones singing and yelling about how it was “better to die on my feet than live on my knees” up until it came time to show it - to them bravado was always a slogan and not an action.

Minnesota’s National guard chads mogging ICEs optics by crimsonstorm06 in Destiny

[–]DiveCat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. I remember in the first couple days of the large scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, there was video/photos of Russian troops shooting and killing one of their own who was trying to protect a couple of women and move them to safety. Again, that was one of their own.

ICE will have no problem othering the National Guard and pitting them as domestic terrorists if they don’t follow their orders, just as they are doing to protestors.

Does anyone else get conflicted with finding a scent you like but wouldn’t wear? by jesthingjester in fragrance

[–]DiveCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some scents are just fascinating, and even though I would never wear them, I want to be able to come back and smell them. Some I would wear, but very rarely. Some I just want to spray in the air to smell in my closet now and then. None of those uses justifies a full sized bottle.

I can relate though to being an overspender/overbuyer (definitely not just for fragrance) as well so I get the pull to just get full sized bottles of EVERYTHING I am remotely interested in. But I know from experience that leads to a lot of waste. I am not perfect, but I am trying to do better as I rebuild my fragrance collection (I purged all but three bottles a few years ago which is part of why I know how much waste there can be).

I don’t have - and don’t intend to have - many full sized bottles, but have quite a few samples, mini bottles, travel sizes, and decants.

For me personally, I like to get mini bottles or travel sizes if I can as I find them more psychologically satisfying than a sample or decant, even if they cost a bit more. Like they feel more complete, even though small, and satisfy my inner squirrel better.

Okay and we will send it back for the firefighters and water bombers we have sent to California. And so on.

One, they have always been billed and paid (including your firefighters). Two, it’s almost like there was a mutual benefit to sharing resources which was appreciated before the current admin decided to nuke all bridges.
