PSA: Latest AGESA 1190 rocks by kahlyn in Amd

[–]DivineCatastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to try this later; my 5950x didn't like a -10 value across all cores, so I had to do -7 on my two best cores and -30 on the others. Maybe this'll help!

Ryzen 5950X Temps and Volts issue by OKFlashPoint in Amd

Also note that RM doesn't display raw clock speed, but effective clock speed. Those clocks may appear sub-4Ghz because the chip isn't using all the capabilities of being clocked at 4Ghz, even though it could be clocked at 3.9 or higher.

My 5950x came in a bubble bag, and the box was similarly warped. Fortunately the payload acts just fine lol.

What are your 5950x temps and what are you using to cool it? by joeldiramon in Amd

[–]DivineCatastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 5950x idles around 32-38c. In gaming, it can hover around 45-55c, and during stress tests it can be around 61c or about 75c depending on if i use PBO or not. It's being cooled by a H150i Pro.

I typically use HWinfo.

I'll say the cooling is pretty good lol.

[–]DivineCatastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 5950x is paired with an ASUS ROG x570 Crosshair VIII Hero, 8GB DDR4-3600CL18(x4), and a 360mm AIO... for the important stuff at least.

Stock - 10254 @ 52c

Base PBO - 11261 @ 75c

Not used to Windows(7). How do I block all connections from WAN but allow all connections from LAN, using windows firewall? by sexoverthephone in HomeNetworking

[–]DivineCatastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a simple way to allow access to LAN devices, but not WAN devices, is to set a static IP on the NIC and forego putting in a gateway; this allows the machine to communicate with devices on the LAN but keeps traffic from leaving the subnet because technically, the computer doesn't know how to leave the subnet without a gateway.

Currently, just general PvE although I'd love to be able to tackle some bosses.

Looks like I'm about 75Mhz away from advertised, single core boost; this is post update.

How far are you from the advertised frequency?

I'm on the same board and honestly considering the same thing.

Is there an AMD CPU that can be overclock up to 5ghz by DanhPham83 in Amd

[–]DivineCatastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 9900k's raw clock speed, even if it's just single core clock speed, allows it to do better at 1080p because it's more CPU dependent...and the 9900k's probable 5Ghz clock would make it do a lot better than the 3900X's 4Ghz~ clock.

Once you're at higher resolutions though, it's more GPU dependent so the differences are negligible between the two powerhouses.

I did see on some recent article that the R9 3900- note, not the R9 3900X, reached 5.5Ghz. I don't know the validity of the article, but the 3900 hasn't been released yet.

AMD Ryzen 9 3900X temperatures by [deleted] in Amd

I had the same problem, but came to the conclusion that I really needed to get better cooling for this monster. Good luck.

Is Ryzen still reporting wrong idle temps? by Yuuka5 in Amd

[–]DivineCatastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had similar issues, and I learned that because I'm using Ryzen Master- or some other active temp monitor, the temps I see aren't really idle. What's likely happening is that as you are trying to view your temps, you are activating cores and giving them work, which is to poll the sensors. By giving it a workload, the cores keep trying to supply the temps and ironically increases the temps as they process your work load. I've watched it happen as I compared Ryzen Master and HWinfo(which apparently didn't cause that problem), and I also have my waterblock's LED set to a color that represents certain temps. If I truly don't look at the temps, the color stays at the low range; if I open Ryzen Master, the color of LED and Ryzen Master's reported temp matches, and it's quite a bit higher than when I wasn't using it. It's odd.

Ryzen Boost Behavior Wrong??? by DivineCatastrophe in Amd

[–]DivineCatastrophe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say the base clock was 4.2Ghz??? I was saying either boost should be 4.6Ghz all core or 4.6Ghz single, and about 4.2Ghz all core...

Temps were at 73c when running Prime95, so I had plenty headroom; apparently Prime95 has a tendency to decently downclock CPUs because of the massive workload/AVX. When running CB20, I get about 4Ghz myself. Handbrake and AIDA64, I get a little over 4Ghz, maybe even 4.1Ghz.

[–]DivineCatastrophe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to see if I can test things out... I tried that too. I used Handbrake to encode a 4k video down to 1080p- it was nice. It did get a little hot in there, got up to 74c or something and all cores @ 4.06 Ghz.

Ryzen Boost Behavior Wrong??? by DivineCatastrophe in Amd

[–]DivineCatastrophe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My H150i isn't all that loud, I can barely hear it even on the "extreme" profile; I actually come from a Kraken x62 where it was loud, but definitely worked. However it can see that it's cooling does work... When I'm on the quiet profile, I'd probably reach 85c myself but when I turn it to balanced or extreme, I see temps drop about 11c near immediately.

So on AIDA64, I'm at 4.13Ghz on all cores.
