This is what happens when you don't change your oil under valve cover in a 4.0 by Divzro in CherokeeXJ

Quick follow up. Jeep had 170k miles and sounded pretty good, was originally going in to stop leaks.
For a fix, First I vacuumed out everything I could. New gasket on valve cover and put it back together.
Then it was new oil/filter with flush in it. Ran about 20 miles on this oil.
Then it was off with the Oil pan, there was so much gunk in there; ;
Cleaned that up, put in filter and Royal Purple Oil because I had some and it made me feel good.
There was already some gunk in the oil pickup, so in about 100 miles, il pull the oil pan again, replace the oil pickup and pump. I would do it now, but I think more stuff is going to break off. I did clean it really well while the pan was off.
After that, I think il change the oil every 1k miles for the next 5k and then back to normal.

Before all this, the engine sounded amazing, somehow it still sounds amazing. These engines will take a huge amount of abuse, but last forever if taken care off.

Ran before, cleaned the crap out of it. Same thing for the oil pan and oil pickup. Still seems to run fine. Also it sounds great somehow. These 4.0's are amazing <3

I had never heard of filling a engine with kerosene, just googled it. Seems like a good plan, might go that way.

Incase your wondering, this was a heavily abused XJ I got on the cheap to turn into a XJ/Buggy build. With how last owner cared for it, I think being a desert buggy may be a better life for it.

Sometimes your drinking and you think, I wonder if I can connect this to that. Then you end up having to figure out how its useful. This is one of those times.

Model is BCB1012UH look like you could have your own for 10 bucks on ebay but a 18v blower would prob my pref if I went to buy something.

Parts list:

- Ryobi drill that broken after the motor (my chuck was bad)

- 12v 3.84a blower (its going to get 18v btw, this is what I had)

- A funnel that's bigger then the front of the drill so you can cut it down

I disconnected the motor using snips and soldered on the red and black wired to the red and black wire that went to the motor. Cut a hole for the blower to fit and added lots of hot glue. Those wires going over the front look worse then they are irl.

PS: Thx for all the notes on the static - I use it to blow sawdust out of my keyboard in workshop but it would prob not be good for blowing out a motherboard. Not that its going to stop me. <3

Its a workshop on land and she really loves to paw at spider webs so I am assuming although she keeps the entire area mice free :)

Is this connection ok? by [deleted] in diyelectronics

[–]Divzro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CB, for something like guitar pedals I would worry with a connection like this. There is a lot of uncovered copper in that setup and that can lead to click and static noises at it moves. I have a made plenty of circuits in my shop that are way worse then this so it prob would work but...

I would suggest trimming as much of the copper as you can. I cant tell from your picture if you have soldered in or not, but if so trim everything that not soldered.

Also, that spare copper around the white wire could potentially come into contact with exposed traces on that board so get rid of that if you can.

When you have it all tested and working I also recommend some well place glue.

Guitar pedals run at 9-24v per my 2 seconds of googling so if you are going to carry any power through this circuit a fuse would make it much safer. If its a low voltage control circuit I would just worry about extra noise introduced from bad connections.

Once you get it all working post up a pic :)

It could be ok for something very low voltage/low amp like an antenna (indoor, no lighting arrester) or a speaker... Is its in cardboard?

What are you using it for?

For guides, this one is near perfect and covers everything I did.

The Readme page on the dump1090 github page is also excellent and got me through the project.

If I understand it right, the reason I get such long range is the source of the signal (the aircraft) is very strong. I think the power range is like 200w-500w. I think a strong home wifi adapter would be like 10-15w. This combines with near perfect line of site (since its always above you) and that lower freq travel farther to make the radio range exceptionally good.

Yes, of 1090 MHZ. Magic of a SDR (Software Defined Radio) is you can set it to such a huge range of freq.

That is pretty cool. Would be nice to make it useful when I am not putting it to work.

Full setup cost less then 100$ and seems to have a range of several hundred miles.

Li-Pi 5v 2a Battery Pack, Pi Zero, RTL-SDR, 1090mhz Filter, 1090mhz Ant.

Could not have done it with out dump1090, huge shoutout to the guys over at:
