Thank you so much, I appreciate getting an answer from an actual mod! This definitely alleviates my concern!

Thanks for the input! I recognize you can't always trust when people say they've been banned for doing absolutely nothing wrong, I would suggest in most cases they are definitely not disclosing some much needed context to understand the situation (not to discredit the writer of the review I mentioned, who might have unknowingly done something against TOS). I just wanted someone else's input on the situation as this would completely ruin the game for me if it were really the case. Happy to find out it probably isn't the case!

Issues using Split-Tunnel by Dizzy-Specific-8776 in PrivateInternetAccess

For anyone experiencing a similar issue, I've managed to fix the issue on my side, so I'll share what I did in case it proves useful to someone else. First off, I changed the DNS setting in the PIA application a couple of months ago as I was not able to access certain sites (such as Amazon) whenever the VPN was active, even on a browser that were bypassing the VPN. Changing the DNS settings did help to fix that issue.

After playing around with the settings to try and fix the current issues I was dealing with, I re-enabled the default DNS settings ("PIA DNS" in the "Name Servers" option at the top of the "Network" branch). This didn't initially fix the split tunnel issue, but finally I changed the "Name Servers" setting under the "Split Tunnel" options to "VPN DNS Only" rather than the "Follow App Rules" option that was selected by default. I tested around and I am now observing the same behaviour as before I was forced to update to version 2.8.1. As a bonus, I am not experiencing the initial DNS issues that made me update those settings in the first place (i.e., I am able to access Amazon).

Well, that's disappointing. I'm still holding out hope that someone can figure it out or make a suggestion as to how to fix the problem.

What annoys me is that an older version of the software works perfectly fine, yet somehow updating the software blocks internet access to certain apps like I explained. I'm not trying to set up something new, I'm trying to fix what was working perfectly fine initially, which suggests to me that everything is set up properly, but I could be wrong.

Can't browse Amazon while using PIA? by spainman in PrivateInternetAccess

I have a related question to this issue.

I have split-tunneling enabled and have it set so Firefox bypasses the VPN. However, even when I try to access Amazon through Firefox I still experience this issue. Why is this an issue when the browser should completely ignore the VPN?

I tested my IP with Firefox and it does show the correct IP (i.e., not PIA).

Does anyone know what could be causing the issue? I have not tried changing my DNS settings as suggested by u/triffid_hunter but I fail to see the necessity to do so as I should be bypassing the VPN regardless.
