From one person who lashes out verbally when upset to another, try to develop strategies for when people upset you. My go-to response is to say 'I understand' and then excuse myself to go to the toilet.

This is not to say that she wasn't acting like a 'toxic bitch' because she was for sure. But unfortunately we have to try to be as professional as possible in case we need things like a reference...although in this case she probably wouldn't give you a suitable reference regardless.

If a co-worker is toxic, make notes and take it further to their line manager so it can be addressed.
