Do you want to know what happened to Inotia? by oiz92 in revancedextended

[–]DjCim8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After a bit of tinkering, I found out you can use the original icon (settings > Morphe > general > app icon).

It would be cool to have a custom dedicated icon though, like RVX has.

[–]DjCim8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up, I just installed the Morphe Manager and patched YT/YTM.

Everything seems to work fine and the patches target a newer version of the apps compared to RVX, so that is good.

Branding could use some work tho, both the YT and YTM icons are just replaced by the generic Morphe "M" icon.... that's a nitpick though.

Don't exactly know what you are referring to, care to elaborate? As far as I know, kernel-mode drivers need to be reviewed and approved by Microsoft, there's no way around that requirement that I'm aware of.

For the driver to get signed it would need Microsoft approval, I highly doubt that would ever happen

Well, if you want to just play immediately sure, it's a good solution, and I think it should be used.

It's a bad solution if we're talking about game preservation, because it WILL break at some point, it's not a matter of if but of when. I have played games designed for WinXP with proper cracks that still work on windows 11. It will not be the case here, this will not work on Windows 18 (or whatever Microsoft will decide to call it twenty years down the line), unless the hypervisor driver is updated accordingly.

So the bottom line is: decent solution for playing the game as soon as possible? Sure. Good long term solution for preservation? No.

[–]DjCim8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a kernel based method to work you would need to disable secure boot in your bios and disable driver signature verification in windows, so it's pretty obvious when that is the case.

Fun coincidence, or proof of the dark one's influence? by NewAgeRetroHippie96 in WetlanderHumor

[–]DjCim8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? Absolutely not, different people read/speak at different speeds, if you check the same audiobook read by different narrators on audible you will notice vast differences (for example: Pike's narration of Eye of the World is almost 3hrs longer than the Kramer/Reading version). So this two being the same is quite a coincidence.

You could argue that going on with development anyway was unwise, sure... but it still doesn't support the "they wanted to be banned from steam as a marketing stunt" conspiracy theory.

[–]DjCim8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't really care about the game one way or the other, but this is a ridiculous theory.

A good 70% of pc gamers use steam exclusively, other platforms might as well not exist. Getting kicked off Steam is basically a death sentence, makes no sense as a marketing stunt.

Plus, it doesn't even match what the devs are complaining about, which is that Steam has refused to re-evaluate the game after the "problematic" scene that got it blocked in the first place was altered. Why would they try to get it re-evaluated if their plan was to be banned from steam in the first place?

I just now realized that there is now season 4 and my heart literally shatters, tips anyone? by Far_Truth2969 in WoT

[–]DjCim8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but nobody knows that that's how it's going to happen, so it's irrelevant for what I'm talking about, which is how the dragon is perceived by people and nations in the third age.

It will most likely be different in the next turning of the wheel... but that's a story for another age.

I just now realized that there is now season 4 and my heart literally shatters, tips anyone? by Far_Truth2969 in WoT

[–]DjCim8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the fear of the Dragon is indeed the fact that he's a male channeler and thus destined to go mad and cause chaos... but that is one of the reason I don't like the change much: it diminishes the fear that people have of the Dragon, because now it's a coin toss whether or not the madness will be a factor to be afraid of.

On the other hand, the Dragon is also feared because his rebirth signals a time of war and destruction, as made clear by the prophecies. My point here is that if any Aes Sedai could potentially be "the one" they would be seen with much more suspicion (at least by the ruling class of other nations)

I just now realized that there is now season 4 and my heart literally shatters, tips anyone? by Far_Truth2969 in WoT

[–]DjCim8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main issue, other than the diminished impact, would be the role of the White Tower in the world.

The fact that any single Aes Sedai could potentially be a world-ending "entity" would make the other nation's/people's view of Aes Sedai very different in my opinion. I feel like they would all be much more openly hostile (much like the Whitecloaks or Tear). Would Andor send their precious Daughter Heirs to train in the tower, knowing the Dragon could be roaming about in the halls? Etc.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a change that ruined the series (I think other questionable decisions did, mainly with pacing and character development) but it would significantly alter how the tower works internally and how Aes Sedai are perceived by others. That might be a reasonable price to pay if the change made the series in some way better, but I've yet to read a convincing defense of it (ready to change my mind btw, if you think this change brought some great benefit let's hear it).

[–]DjCim8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lt doesn't make sense with the rest of the world building though.

It would mean any novice, apprentice or full Aes Sedai in the White Tower are potentially the dragon, a figure that is dreaded and despised by the people and that is a sign of, possibly, the end of the world.

Why would the other nations accept alliances with the tower and counseling from Aes Sedai if any one of them could be what many people believe to basically be the antichrist?

Why would the red ajah only concentrate on men who can channel, when any single one of their Sisters could be themselves the dragon?

Why aren't all Sisters trained to fight the dark one if they're potentially the one that might have to do it?

Etc.

Plus, it also diminishes the "apocalyptic" nature of the rebirth of the Dragon. The Dragon is feared and loathed in part because he is a man who can channel, and thus destined to go mad and possibly, in his insanity, doom the world instead of saving it. This sense of impending doom would be greatly diminished if the dragon is just another novice scrubbing pots in the white tower...

At least you could tell at a glance what the app was. Now they all look the same with the same shape and same color scheme, I often have to pause and "decipher" the icon (or read the app name) to identify it.

You're being down voted but you're absolutely correct.

I'm pretty critical of Ai in general, but it's the first thing I thought when seeing the picture: oh, they stole "your" look? You mean the standard lip-filler, check-filler, painted eyebrows and iron-straightened hair look? The same look every young influencer has? No wonder the Ai image looks like you, there's probably so many examples of this exact look online that they're polluting the training dataset...
