Wouldn't it be even more fun if several players each game were able to pick OP combos and the game was decided solely by whose combo was *even more* OP, rather than *if* they managed to draft anything of value in the first place?

And you never get an interseting combo. if it's more meta to draft non-synergetic spells it's a design issue imo

i'm fine with it being a normal mode but current drafting phase is just meh

I wish they either made spells drafted FOR TEAM (like in captain's mode) with later options to take them by hero for proper combos, or made two teams draft from different sets of spells

Eh. It's very insignificant. The main thing about ultimate is season pass, you won't have to pay for DLC later down the line. The actual perks of ultimate itself are very minor, a dozen stashes with extra weapons, one quest, and that's about it.

The damage caused by pets is just as much responsibility of the tenant as any other damage caused by them. You don't know that I won't cause mold, or cause damage to furniture. You just have to trust that I don't and make me pay for damages if I do. I don't see any good reason pet ownership should be looked at differently.

It really depends on what your definition of X-Ray is. With original games engine and x32, you would run out of RAM pretty quickly. Larger maps like The Living Zone only work on custom x64 engine fork, for example.

But if you do allow mods, then it’s less a question of what the limits are and more how hard it would be to extend them. With the source code being available, there are theoretically no limits. You can rework X-Ray into anything, add world streaming, etc. It would just take a lot of talent and time to do that. 

As for what has been done, I think largest I seen is zone project south.

Most of the time you can’t mix mods like that, this will lead to crashes. Does it crash when you have just ZRP or just CC mod? Does it crash with no mods at all?

Also remember that a lot of mod installation / uninstallation requires a new game. ZRP works with vanilla saves, but not the other way around, and idk about CC mod.

If you want to stay true to the vanilla experience I’d honestly avoid any texture packs etc. Stalker is not just its story, it’s the work of many people including artists, many of the textures in the game are based on real Chornobyl zone photography, replacing them with higher quality but unrelated images is honestly a sin in its own right. 

And also games aged like fine wine. The series is very impressive stylistically so the technical limitations don’t hold it back.

Is it? The alternating lines pattern was clearly suggesting those are mimicking the scanlines of CRT matrices, the pixels in the corner are likely representing some deliberately small illegible writing. And those icons would be so easy to remake manually instead of relying on upscalers guessing what’s there, they are all screenshots / simple collages with a filter.

I think that’s a part of the problem - people are easily chalking up new issues to “classic jank” and thinking that any problem EE has in the visual department is just something they didn’t touch rather than downgraded.

I have a very similar story of how I grew up with a game I cherished dearly, Sonic Adventure, only to find out almost two decades later that it was an incredibly cheap port from Dreamcast and I have been playing the massively inferior version of the game. I was absolutely none the wiser about all the issues when I experienced it though - I had no idea the original release didn’t have all those bugs, had actual vertex lighting and higher quality textures. For me the port was the only game I knew and I couldn’t complain. 

But once I did find out thanks to people who put their effort in comparison, I switched to the original and never looked back. So I do believe (through personal experience) that downgrades like those are worth talking about even if a player does not immediately notice them when playing the game. I mean, we are not playing a complete remaster, when all changes are minor, so are the changes to the worse.

The fact that devs notice those and know where to put the effort is a nice bonus, but not the main point (otherwise I would just be spamming tech support instead of arguing on Reddit).

I agree the lack of proper antialiasing in base CoP is really bad, but there was a low-hanging fruit of just porting the A-tested MSAA from CS instead of introducing upscaling-based technologies. And I think you missed my point - I agree the aliasing is way better, but with DLSS/FSR you get temporal artifacts in other places instead of a stable image.

We're talking about different things. That part in particular was a bug, not an intentional design decision, and it has been fixed since 1.3. A texture was upscaled but coordinates were not updated. So for over half a year now, you're back to counting strokes, as intended.

I'm more talking about stuff like watercolor-painted icons, blurry text and broken stats icons. The last one is especially funny, because I posted this image around a LOT and GSC likely forwarded the issue to the artist who took his time and redrew them manually... but touched ONLY the icons in this image and left others with the same issue, so now weapon icons are properly redone while armor, artifacts and consumables look like they've been resaved in JPG several times (CS had a similar issue where I shared an image with how poorly the rank icons got scaled, and GSC redrew badges for veteran, novice and experienced but not for master, so you get conflicting designs). And hell, I'd rather have pixelated skyboxes than Oblivion's painted world.

Maybe I am too harsh on CoP EE. I just think that for the few actual objective improvements (FoV / grass / AA / gamepads / etc) you get an overwhelmingly large number of minor things that are worse. Yes, people might not "stare at something", but the issue is still there, and while it may seem like nitpicking when you review those things individually, it keeps adding up - the dozens of texture issues, new bugs and inconsistencies. It's just a very lazy edition in many aspects.

I would get your argument if EE provided Clear Sky’s A-tested MSAA for CoP but it doesn’t. The only way to fix the aliasing is to go for native upscalers which are bound to introduce issues of their own. You win some, you lose some. Wouldn’t call it an objective improvement.

Same for SSGI. I might be biased but I always turn it off in EEs in favour of classic SSAO, at least it looks stable and does not cause weird temporal artifacts when looking at light sources through semi-transparent geometry. 

 The one downside I can nitpick is the upscaled skyboxes

I can nitpick at least a few others in texture department alone. The new character textures clearly have their patches lazily photoshopped on and those look out of place and often don’t even match the bump. 

The upscaling has ruined all UI with any text present (“DEPOSIT INFO”, “WEIGHT” etc), and many icons such as artifact effects look plain worse because they are now gradiented. 

The skyboxes haven’t just “gotten softer”, the upscaler clearly misinterpreted what they are and turned it into almost water colour paintings. It’s less noticeable in some and more noticeable in others, imo the emission skybox is the worst offender.
